Review: An apt title here as New York's Patrick Sullivan AKA P-SOL returns to his own Wall Of Fame label with his second full-length, which follows 2021's 'Quiet Hours'. It's sitting on our Disco pages but is mostly better suited to home listening than dancefloor action, with cuts ranging from the lilting Balearica of 'Time Of The Week' to the mellow hip-hop/R&B of 'Dreaming Again' and the hazy Afro-isms of 'Fiyuh'. For yours truly though it's the album's mellower, jazzier moments that are of most interest - see in particular the laidback, melancholy groove of 'Alone At Night' and the slick, sultry soul-jazz of 'Comb My Hair', though the Curtis Mayfield-ish 'Around Town' is one to check, too.

Review: With a string of EPs to his name for labels including Whiskey Pickle, FKR Records and Diggin' Deeper, New York-based DJ/producer P-Sol aka Patrick Sullivan chooses his own Wall Of Fame label (est 2015) as the home for his debut long-player. The overarching theme is deep house from the midtempo and, at times, more experimental end of the spectrum, but across its 16 tracks the album evidences a wide range of influences, from chill-out and Balearica (see, for instance, 'Aite Chill') to hip-hop ('Wzup'). Indeed, the loop-based production style suggests P-Sol's hip-hop roots may run pretty deep - but if it's hazy, laidback electronica built for lazy sunny afternoons you're after, this is well worth checking.

Say What - (7:00) 118 BPM
Bird Call - (6:12) 100 BPM
Want To Hold You - (5:39) 94 BPM Hot
Review: Following a surprisingly quiet year, Patrick "P-Sol" Sullivan returns to local label Wall of Fame with an undeniably eclectic three-track salvo. The New York producer kicks things off with "Say What", an impressively warm, woozy and soul-flecked chunk of sample-heavy deep house rich in swinging beats, jazzy double bass and dewy-eyed vocal samples, before dropping the tempo and reaching for the jaunty electric piano riffs on dub disco rework "Bird Call". Arguably even better is closing cut "Want To Hold You", a head-nodding and toe-tapping disco-funk slow jam whose punchy horns, loved-up vocals and sweeping strings inevitably catch the ear.

Review: Rejoice! New Yorker P-Sol (aka Pat Sullivan) has returned to local imprint Wall Of Fame for this latest four tracker. Each track here is a joy to behold with the fun beginning on twangy, spandex clad early 80s slap bass funk opener "Today". Elsewhere the druggy loops of "Love Me Hardly" whisking us off to a deep world of psychedelic house and "South Side" taking us back down with some quality smooth and soulful grooves. Lastly "That Kid Is Noise" closes the show with some spooky downtempo vibes.

You Feel Fine - (5:26) 116 BPM
Review: NYC's Pat Sullivan appearers for local imprint Wall Of Fame, following up his brilliant ode to hero Gil Scott-Heron "No Category" last year. Now for some more low slung deep disco goodness on the Sound Check EP. On this one we really enjoyed "Hear That" and "You Feel Fine" in all their funky, soulful and uplifting glory. Plus there's "Light The Sky" for something a lot more dirty and dusty; this is the kind of loopy late night disco house that's so inspired by KDJ that we're lovin' it!

No Category - (5:22) 116 BPM Hot
Uptown Celebration - (7:25) 122 BPM
Review: NYC's P-Sol aka Pat Sullivan is proving to be a deft hand at re-edits, reworking some serious funk and soul classics for modern dancefloors. He's also served up some pretty decent nu-disco as you've all surely noticed, but on "No Category" he lends his midas touch to Gil Scott Herron's "Is That Jazz?" from the classic 1984 album Reflections. On the second track "Uptown Celebration" he provides us with a sombre and soulful excursion through the modern deep house sound with a duty rhythm, glistening and emotive chords and a nice bumpy bassline. Oh, and still utilising Gil Scott-Herron's unmistakeable vocals like before. Definitely check this out!

Wreck - (4:19) 96 BPM Hot
Review: New York's Buggin' Out has previously provided disco-centric DJs with a pair of fine re-edit EPs on hometown imprint Wall of Fame. Here he delivers a third, serving up four more cuts that impressively blend the boundaries between sultry deep house and expansive disco bagginess. He begins with the humid chords, tropical-influenced percussion and deep house warmth of "Beautiful", before indulging his soulful side on the tactile bliss of "Hey". "Broken" is slower and undeniably more Balearic - all slow grooves, impeccable looped vocals and simmering strings - while closer "Wreck" pays tribute to blazed hip-hop whilst retaining the head-nodding pulse of slo-mo house.

Can't Judge - (6:41) 110 BPM
Review: New York's P-Sol is becoming a trusted source of chunky, floor-friendly reworks. Here he delivers another quartet of gems, on the third volume of his ongoing Mixed Bag series. He kicks things off with "Physical", a tooled-up, floor-friendly re-cut of the Olivia Newton-John pop classic of the same name, before showing Marvin Gaye some love on the sumptuous, filter-heavy loop jam "If You Let Me". Arguably the EP's two strongest moments come last, though; the delay-heavy proto-house dub business of "Tonight", and "Can't Judge", a chunky, bass-heavy re-edit of Cookie's 1982 roller-boogie classic "Can't Judge a Book By Its' Cover". All killer, no filler, as the saying goes.

Review: Just weeks have passed since he treated us to volume one, NY P-Sol editor returns with another varied selection of disco funk versions. "On A Trip" adds a little contemporary production magic to the Garden Of Eden's long-lost classic. "Good Years" is a full fuelled funk bluster with an empowering spoken word sample, "Body Language" slaps hard with squidgy synth bass boogie punches, while "This Must Be Home" takes Eno & Byrne on a whimsical funk mission in a Cadillac made of pure post-disco magic.

Review: Rising nu-disco hero P-Sol is back with a mixed bag - his words, not ours - of his latest reworks. As always with this guy, it's all about hazy funk jams and "Harlem World" kicks things off being exactly that with its rolling bass, gently wafting strings and lazy disco groove but adding a gangsta twist. Elsewhere we get the likes of spaced-out disco raunch on "Needy", retro dubby block party jams ("Perfect Combination") and far-out, wah-wah drenched, '70s funk rock on "Be Alright".

Review: For this latest missive from Wall Of Fame HQ, we see label stalwart Buggin' Out sharing the love with P Sol on a rare split release. The former is up first, reworking the Isley Brothers' legendary synth soul classic "Between The Sheets" on "All I Know", before delivering "Party Girl", another killer slice of '80s electro-boogie muscle. P-Sol on the other tackles Larry Levan's mighty "Hopscotch' on "Do It Again", before wrapping things up with the slow soul grind of "Sunshine".

Review: There's been some serious rare groove mining at Wall Of Fame HQ lately and they've come up with four chrome-plated gems for "Edits Vol 2". "Family Affair" kicks things off with a slap bass attack laced with some soulful female vocals, "Funk Giver" is a hot mess of phased funk guitar licks and a shimmering, chant-led stomp along. However the real stars here are the fuzzy, ecstasy-fuelled Balearic loops of "Marcy Hustle" and the percussion-heavy moody jam, "Mission".
