Big Catzz
Big Catzz - (3:05) 150 BPM
Played by: RL Grime, AWITW
Review: Warp Scotsman Rustie gets epic on this sudden one-tracker. Its vibrancy and technicolour flavour shouldn't surprise in the slightest but the unfettered epicity of the hook is his boldest yet. Giving the EDM guys a run for their money, he shows us how big riffs and euphoria are done from his perspective. Massive in every sense.

Review: The Glaswegian's highly anticipated album on one of underground music's finest labels comes not a moment too soon. The 13-track album kicks off with the eponymous track of the album "Glass Swords" sets the tone for the piece, which quickly manifests itself to be a glorious fusion of R&B, hip-hop, dubstep, UKG, techno and even more esoteric sub-genres. Highlights from across the selection include the euphoric trance-tinged "Hover Traps", psychadelic "Ultra Thrizz" with its dubstep swagger and firing synths and lush "After Light". Glass Swords really is an album of our time, and we really urge you to check this one out.

Review: Making their debut on Warp, Hudson Mohawke and Lunice proudly cross their beams to rain down a sick and slick kind of future-crunk, aptly demonstrated in in the introductory nature of bass-rich teaser "Top Floor" with its juke leanings and menacing posture. There's a detuned nature to the recognisable bleeps and wails on offer here while the beats remain crunchy and steadfast. "Higher Ground" is more overt in its use of juke to create a twisted kind of hype, while "Bugg'n" drips and drops in a loping vat of sub bass and slow-mo strangeness, leaving you with one of the oddest takes on the contemporary mess of electronic beats.

Review: Sumach Valentine aka Gonjasufi continues to display his singularly unique musical vision on MU ZZ LE, the San Diegan sometime yoga teacher's first full length LP since the stunning A Sufi & A Killer. This time round, he's turned the psychedelia up to the max, largely dispensing with his abstract influences in favour of a drowsy, hallucinogen influenced psych-pop stew. It's a good move. The sample-heavy, doped-up tracks veer from loose-limbed, jazz-flecked smokiness ("Timeout") and dub-laden fluidity ("Venom") to organ-heavy freakiness ("Rubberband") and super-distorted lo-fi reggae ("Blacksuit"), all the while coming on like the results of too many late nights flicking through long wave radio stations.

Review: Leila Arab is a fascinating producer, capable of both comforting IDM and stark, almost industrial experimentation. For the most part, U&I - her second full-length for Warp and fourth in total - sits somewhere in between. Boundaries are consistently pushed, with dark noise and break core-influenced soundscapes nestling side by side with twisted, balls-out synth-pop, mawkish industrial freakouts and impossible-to-pigeonhole oddities. There are, of course, calming moments between (see the rather lovely "In Motion Slow"), but the overriding impression is of a woman on the edge, having bucket loads of fun in the process. Fellow noise-wave knob-twiddler Mount Sims lends a hand on a few tracks, adding his distinctive vocals to Leila's futuristic, nightmarish visions. In summary: bonkers.

Higher Palms
Higher Palms - (4:46)
Higher Palms (Young Montana? remix) - (5:06) Hot
Review: Hailing from Brooklyn, My Best Fiend aren't the first New York band to sig to esteemed label Warp - their friends The Hundred In The Hands are the most recent - but they do inhabit a hazy, dreamlike world of their own. "Higher Palms" serves as a taster for their forthcoming album. The track has echoes of US folk and country, but set in the kind of twilight gothic space the Cocteau Twins inhabit, with the scale of classic shoegaze. A remix is provided by highly touted beatsmith Young Montana, who transforms the track into a spiralling combination of Boards of Canada style melodies and beats that wouldn't be out of place on a Brainfeeder record.

Surph
Surph (radio edit) - (3:24)
Played by: Homegroove Project
Review: Off the back of the widely lauded Glass Swords LP, Rustie peels off a prime slice of crossover potential with a radio edit of "Surph". Featuring Nightwave on vocals, it's a blindingly bright production that cuts it with the big budget chart toppers. Fusing the stacatto synth lines of trance, boogie lead lines and the chunky drum machine work of trap rap, it's as razor-sharp a production as you're ever likely to hear. All it takes is Nightwave's honey-coated (and vocodered) R&B croon to make this a serious contender for summertime radio smash.

Review: Battles have always operated at the fringes, in a place where rock and electronic music meet to get it on. On this occasion, it sounds like the chosen remixers have tipped the balance in favour of Battles's techno leanings. The Qluster version of "Dominican Fade" is closest in sound to the act's own approach, with dreamy synths spiralling to a climax against a glitchy backdrop, but it's all about the straight four/four material here. Kangding Ray's take on "Toddler" is a sumptuous dub techno groove, while Silent Servant's version of "Inchworm" is all about the humming, pulsing bass and rattling percussion.

Broken Kite Footage - (4:54)
Review: Chris Clark's sixth album for Warp sees him favour a distinctly pastoral approach. Tracks like "Henderson Wrench" and "Ghosted" are breathless folksy affairs, powered by acoustic guitar strumming and in the case of "Ghosted", a haunting vocal. On other occasions, Clark opts for a sweeter style as saccharine synths and mid tempo, unquantized beats vie for the listener's attention. The same kind of quirky playfulness is audible on the humming bass and break beats of "Open" or "Tooth Moves", where live drums underpin a synth that emits waspish tones. But Clark also has a reflective side and the album's highlights occur when he delivers the beautifully contemplative piano compositions "Black Stone" and the widescreen ambience of "Broken Kite Footage".

Dark Steering
Dark Steering - (6:51)
Review: Tom Jenkinson is back in town and on utterly deadly form after some years in a strange jazz-funk-pop no mans land. If you love Squarepusher for his tearout electronica tendencies, then this track will make you very happy indeed. Harking back to Do You Know Squarepusher, there's elegant pads and dramatic synth work getting harassed on all sides by nasty digital squelches and squiggles, all grooving to a low-slung tempo. In bombastic fashion a staggered breakdown gives way to an epic breakbeat crescendo that just keeps on intensifying over seven minutes. It sounds like Squarepusher giving his fans what they want and having a great time in the process.

Putty Boy Strut
Putty Boy Strut - (2:53) 82 BPM
Review: The forthcoming FlyLo album, Until The Quiet Comes, has something of an all-star cast, featuring contributions from Erykah Badu, Lauren Hill and Thom Yorke. This single-track taster single, though, features no extra frills - just the L.A beatmaker doing what he does best. Combining woozy, chopped-up electronic melodies with a glitchy beat that seems partly inspired by the Chicago Juke movement, "Putty Boy Strut" is an off-beat floorfiller - by his standards, at least. It certainly raises expectations ahead of the album, which we really can't wait to hear.

Review: Pitched somewhere between the gritty, propulsive beats of Los Angeles, and the exploratory jazz of Cosmogramma, Flying Lotus's fourth album, Until The Quiet Comes is arguably the most delicate record he's ever produced. Described as a "collage of mystical states, dreams, sleep and lullabies", it steers away from bigger moments, choosing instead to present an understated patchwork of breezy jazz samples, dusty hip-hop beats smeared vocals seemingly inspired by DMT hallucinations. While previous efforts were wildly futuristic at times, Until The Quiet Comes is confidently classicist - and seals Flying Lotus's position as one of our generation's visionary producers.

Review: Waify Brooklyn duo Hundred In The Hands have been remixes by a diverse array of artists in the past - Tiger & Woods and, most memorably, Kyle Hall immediately spring to mind - and Come With Me continues this trend. The single plucked from their recent Red Night LP for Warp Records is given a breakneck Day For Night remix (147 BPM anyone?), while Lucky Paul and LDFD turn in more sedate revisions. The pick of the bunch however is the rework from semi-mysterious producer South London Ordnance, who turns in a moody steppah dripping with the kind of growling low end and reverb-laden atmospherics that prowl around the speaker cones like rocks in a malfunctioning washing machine.

Review: A heavenly collaboration between the legendary musical journeyman Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek, Africa Hitech is a delicious fusion of grime, dancehall and techno that really glistens with energy and has had fans breathlessly waiting for this first release on Warp. Lead tune "Blen" won't disappoint at all, a heavy old-school grime beat with an uptempo but still laid back vocal, it's an absolute joy. As well as a remix of "Blen" and an instrumental, there's also the more plaintive but still riveting "The Sound of Tomorrow". Well worth the hype, check out why fans are getting in a lather for Africa Hitech.

Review: Erstwhile Global Communication guru and wonderfully unpredictable man about the dance, Mark Harmonic 313 Pritchard has dusted off the old jungle spirit, pitched it down and re-sampled it with a harder dancefloor step. Armed with a groove so booty shakingly beautiful he's supplied a naked instrumental and two MC-led licks, this is 313 at his most sprightly and party-minded. If you're looking for something deeper, darker and MC-free then head for "Dutty Bounce". The name says it all.
