Review: Since their label debut in 2017 with "Flower of Cane", Hamburg heroes Adana Twins have become staples of the Watergate institution. From being handed over the reins on the 25th edition in their esteemed mix series to playing regularly at the club, the duo deliver the goods once again on their new offering. Review: Extrawelt follow recent releases on Traum and Furthur Electronix with this EP for Watergate. Recorded in one take, this raw three-tracker touches on elements of trance, techno and break beat to create unique fusions. "Alpha & Oma" resound to a throbbing bass and a series of spine-tingling synth builds. In contrast, "Email Auf Klinke" is more stripped back and rugged, built on punchy, rolling drums - remaining true to Extrawelt's approach it also contains the occasional sliver of trance melody. "Automatik" closes out the release in a more haunting mood; resounding to a niggling acid bass, cinematic synth scapes lend it a truly mysterious feeling.

Review: German wunderkind Tim Engelhardt returns to Watergate to follow up 2020's Rooted EP. The Cologne-based producer was prolific throughout 2020, seeing the release of the LP Idiosynkrasia on Stil Vor Talent, and remixes for the likes of Trentemoeller. From the sublime deep house stylings of the title track, which is as glassy-eyed and bittersweet as it gets, there's also the sunny and uplifting open-air vibes of "Polygon Particles" with a strong influence of Afro house and an innate soulfulness. Finally, Engelhardt executes one more expression in perfect dancefloor drama on "Connected in Silence", guided by a wonderful melodic progression and underpinned with moody elements which intensify the track's overall tension and suspense.

Review: The Berlin-based producer/live act and in-house engineer for Watergate club, Jans Biesmans has created a 'nostalgia-driven delight' here for their eponymous label. 'Trains, Planes & Automobiles' is a neon-lit night drive through a nu-disco fantasy. The remix up next by Italian duo Fideles (of Correspondant and Afterlife fame) deconstructs classic rave motifs on their emotive and breakbeat driven rendition - which is equally as worthy of your attention. Review: German house wunderkind - his first single dropped when he was just 14 years old - and Poker Flat regular Tim Engelhardt comes to Watergate with a three-track EP. The title track 'Rooted' is by far the standout: with its nagging three-note synth bassline, this dark, hypnotic throbber should serve you well pretty much anywhere that house music is played! Elsewhere, 'Brought To Bare' and 'Future Matter' are perhaps more specific to the prog/melodic floors but just as accomplished in their production, with a hint of an Italo/disco sensibility nudging 'Future Matter' into the Silver position.

Review: Like nothing ever happened Watergate have dropped their summer anthem with Crying Juno! Replete with ambient atmospheres and nostalgic soundscapes, this record searches for sunrises in Berlin as much as it does the setting sun in Ibiza. As 2020 keeps the dancefloor of Watergate closed for now, Mathias Mayer and Ryan Davis deliver the label its fourth release for the year which pushes deep into a melodic, trance and progressive territory. For the melancholy-heads it's "Cafune" with its breathy vocal progressions and arpeggiated rhythms surfing the track's warm bassline. For everyone else, there's no denying the uplifting techno-pop of "Crying Juno" made extra sweet by its open air vibe and outdoor festival quality.

Review: As Watergate's former technician, Joris Biesmans has been an invaluable fixture at the Berlin superclub for the last five years. With his new focus on making music full time, he's been added to the club's agency roster and emerges with an impressive debut EP on the label, after releases on Correspondant, AEON and Adana Twins' TAU. "Electric Love" is a delightful serving of upbeat electro-pop, featuring vocals by Idorski. It then receives a roaring rework by the ever impressive Italian duo Marvin & Guy and then two more originals follow. "Technician On A Mission" goes for a classic Italo viibe which is pure neon-lit ecstasy, while "City Boy" delves into moodier nu-disco territory similar to Lauer or Tuff City Kids.

Review: With a considerable catalogue that includes releases on Poker Flat, Tim Engelhardt now debuts on another German dance music institution, Watergate. In keeping with the melodic sound that the sister Watergate club champions, "Rhy" is a wonderfully esoteric affair. Supported by crisp kicks and tight percussion, Engelhardt lays down hypnotic synth riffs, accompanied by a throbbing low end. It's exactly the type of track that will resonate at the Berlin club. Over the last decade, the imprint has set a standard for captivating electronic music from across the house and techno spectrum, successfully mirroring the club's booking policy. Now up to over 60 releases including a remix of the Josh Wink classic "Higher State Of Consciousness" by residents Adana Twins, and the 26th installment in their acclaimed mix series by Danish legends Whomadewho - this compilation presents some of its most memorable cuts since its inception in 2008. Review: Here is the third installment of Watergate Affairs, after a long break and as always focusing on emerging talent. Danish duo Baime contribute the hypnotic journey into the exotic that is "Majka", Tel Aviv's Kadosh returns to the label after featuring on the Adana Twins' 'Watergate 25' compilation last year. His track is the seductive "Better Days" - a dreamy and evocative composition that you could imagine Lee Burridge playing on a sunny rooftop, while Argentinian Kintar provides some moody dancefloor drama on the riveting "Paradisou". Another Argentinian producer appears in the form of Kevin Di Serna with "Lucero Del Alma" which continues on with those heartfelt and glassy-eyed narratives for the dancefloor.

He has steadily forged his reputation as one to watch. Following his contribution to Adana Twins' Watergate 25 compilation, he returns to the esteemed Berlin label - this time teaming up with exciting new vocal-led French trio LKF Project (Sapiens/Atlant). "Her Song" is a pop-inflected and evocative deep house anthem for the main room - you can expect to hear this a lot in 2019. This is backed up by the tension and suspense of "Discrete Class" that's sure to fuel those heads down moments under the strobelight.

Review: Hot on the heels of the Watergate 26 mix, this split release showcases some of the best tracks that were included on WhoMadeWho's selection. The storied Danish trio hook up with Ruede Hagelstein to deliver a slinky, melancholic take on Bjork's "Violently Happy". Review: A split/collaborative EP from Watergate this one, with 'Montserrat' credited to WhoMadeWho but presented in Artbat Edit form, while 'Closer' is credited to Artbat but has WhoMadeWho as a featured artist. The former is a broody, moody affair in which a muted, percussive intro is slowly joined by atmospheric synth drones, simple 4/4s and a walking bassline, before risers and other synth sounds pave the way for the electric geetar solo that provides the track's real USP, accompanied by a plainitive male vocal. 'Closer', meanwhile, sticks more closely to the European "melodic house plus indie-style vox" formula of recent years.

Review: Facilitated by the label arm of Berlin club Watergate, this release sees two of Europe's most talented production acts lock horns. First up, Hamburg duo Adana Twins remix Baumel's "Roar", which originally appeared ten years ago on Get Physical. At the time of its original release, the track received a lot of attention due to the absence of a kick drum and the way that its looped metallic sound gradually intensified. In the Twins' hands, this experimental piece of music is turned into a moody, pulsating affair with echoes of ebm. A similarly menacing aesthetic is audible on the Adana Twins's original track, "Aufstand Der Massen". Its linear, heads-down rhythm is augmented by a siren wailing in the background, lending an epic edge to the arrangement.

Review: Hagelstein is one of the most respected German minimal house producers, and his relationship with Watergate goes back a few years. On his latest venture for the Berlin label, he ventures far down the trippy path. "Dematerialize" featuring Justin Evans, is a psychedelic slice of modern house that resounds to acid-inspired gurgles unfolding over a pulsating groove. "Forward Vision" is a more heads-down affair and sees Hagelstein serve up a brooding, atmospheric minimal house track that climaxes to a wild acid segue, while the label has also tapped Martin Buttrich to rework "Dematerialize". In his hands, it turns into a linear, wiry groove that's even more bugged out than the original.

Review: Originally featured on their celebratory XV compilation back in 2017, Berlin clubbing institution Watergate have reissued one of the the standout tracks here by Hamburg hero Matthias Meyer and Berlin's Sebastian Waack aka Ryan Davis. The track "Hope" in its original form was a lush and hypnotic drifter, geared for some life-affirming moments on the dancefloor. The rework featured here by Bedrock head honchos John Digweed & Nick Muir takes the track into much more adrenalised and tunnelling territory, with its trance arpeggios and tight rhythm arrangement making for great dancefloor dynamics - but the breathtaking orchestral arrangements of the original are left intact. New track "Love Letters From Sicily" could equally have had a home on All Day I Dream - its ethereal daydream qualities make it perfect for a Sunday afternoon rooftop party downtown.

With previous releases on top labels like Superfriends, Cocoon and local imprint Zukunft - he tops all that by being picked as selector for esteemed Berlin institution Watergate's 24th mix album. Here we get treated to a few exclusives: first we have Jules & Jesaya's +4 BPM Update of Ame's "119 BPM", there's also his collaboration with Domenico Ferrari on the sleazy lo-slung pop of "Parkuhr". Then, we soon discover its almost entirely a Jimi Jules affair (naturlich!) with his remix of Swiss/German duo Egopusher's "Flake" (venturing into truly sublime territory) and the dreamy and bittersweet tones of Ed Ed & Petja Virikko's "Sundroina" (feat Jinadu).

Mysterious dancefloor drama is guaranteed on the deep and moody acid trip entitled "Abandoned Soul" (his contribution to the mix) which receives a brooding and epic rework by Plangent main man Recondite - taking the track deeper into the late night when the strobe light and smoke machine will accompany it just perfectly. Closing track "Othervision" is a soulful and slo-mo tech house cut, that's perfect to lead into the morning hours just before the lights come on.

Review: Jimi Jules is one of the main DJs at Berlin club Watergate and it's true to say that he leaves his mark on this mix: 13 of the 21 tracks are edits, remixes or original productions from the Swiss selector. That said, he also leaves space for other artists: Porn Sword Tobacco's dreamt "B1" segues nearly into Jules' own "Gare de Lion", while the live funk of "Caldo", one of the tracks from Keope's 2016 album, also makes a seamless transition into Jules & Domenico Ferrari's stripped back vocal track, "Parkuhr". There are multiple such moments on Watergate 24, and its eclectic feel is typified by tracks from Aphex Twin and DJ Koze, electronic music's most eccentric acts.

Review: Since breaking out back in 2010, Sanna La Fleur Engdahl has switched between her own label, Power Plant, and home city imprint Watergate. Here she makes her first appearance on the Berlin imprint for two years. "Devil Sigh", where delay-laden, dub-wise vocal snippets ricochet around aggressive, end-of-days stabs, alien electronics and a driving rhythm track, is our pick of the bunch, though the woozier and more positive - nay, impressively glassy-eyed - title track is also rather good. Rush-inducing, shirt-removing thrills are provided by Tuff City Kids, whose piano-laden, hands-in-the-air rub of "Devil Sigh" sounds like a future anthem.

Review: Following on from last year's Flower of Cane EP, Hamburg house duo Adana Twins return to Watergate. The title track is subtle but effective and austere-sounding but also uplifting. It chugs along to a solid groove and features eerie synths that build and build thanks to some effective filtering - and is exactly the type of track one would expect to hear at the feted Berlin club. On the flip side, "Sequence 01" is centred on a different approach. While its groove is also linear, it is powered by a pulsation bass and the kind of evocative, crystalline hooks that sound like the modern embodiment of classic German trance.

Review: Fur Coat have released EPs on some of techno and house music's biggest labels, including Crosstown Rebels and Hot Creations. Now they consolidate their relationship with a second EP for Berlin imprint Watergate. The Venezuelan pair's strength lies in their ability to effortlessly blur underground sound design with a big room sensibility and this approach is evident in spades on Immersion. The title track features slamming kicks providing the backdrop for chords that loop and filter their way hypnotically over the course of eight minutes, but without once sounding repetitive. "Inner Circle" is more understated, and sees the duo drop a pulsating, tranced out groove that is sure to dawn DJ sets ablaze with its electronic intensity.

Review: Upon You founder Marco Resmann hooks up with Deep Aztec and Black Soda for this deeply soulful release. The title track accurately sums up the shift by minimal producers into deep and vocal house variations, as hypnotic vocals weave their way through the arrangement, underpinned by a throbbing, pulsing bass. There's a similar aesthetic at play on "Abadala", with Deep Aztec's high pitched tones fused with Resmann's tribal beats. Watergate has drafted in Oliver Huntemann to rework the "Babylon Side", turning it into a powerful and somewhat menacing big room number, while Resmann himself also provides a remix - putting a focus on a grainy bass and chopping up the original vocals.

Review: It seems as if 15 years have just flown by since Berlin institution Watergate first opened their doors at the base of the famous Oberbaumbrucke, overlooking the River Spree and where long queues run down the street every weekend to get into one of the best clubs in the world. To celebrate their journey over the last decade and a half, they have put together a special anniversary release of 25 new, exclusive and formerly unreleased tracks. Residents of the superclub all appear, such as Hamburg native Matthias Meyer who teams up with Ryan Davis on the evocative "Hope", famed local duo Tiefschwarz deliver the slow burning and moody tech house of "Control", Sweden's La Fleur (of Power Plant fame) delivers the acidic bump and shuffle of "Femton" and former Stattbad resident and Beste Modus boss Cinthie gets deep on the classic house sound of "Hatschi Hatschi" which has a whole heap of swing to it!

Review: Having made his debut on Kompakt with "Out Of Time" earlier this year, the legendary Sasha now breaks the seal on another prominent German label: Watergate. Flexing his darker technoid muscles, both "Gameovr" and "Trigonometry" are proud late night stampers that twist, weave, spell-bind and hammer in equal measures. The latter is exceptionally spellbinding thanks to its epic 10+ minute weave. Remix-wise we're spoilt rotten as Cassy punctuates "Gameovr" with pile-driving beats and La Fleur refixes our focus on a warmer, housier side to "Trigonometry". Play again?

Review: As Summer peaks, Berlin clubbing institution Watergate brings you the brand new series where standout tracks from their discography are remixed by some of their favourite artists. Kicking off the first instalment we have Matthias Meyer and Jimi Jules stepping up to deliver their twist on two big tunes from heavy-hitters Butch and Henrik Schwarz. First up is Meyer's remix of Butch's "Shahrzad", where he dishes out a truly timeless piece of dancefloor euphoria. With his trademark organic groove and swirling pads, Meyer guides you through a heavenly journey into the distant reaches of sonic elation. On the flip, Jimi Jules brings his A-game with a revision of Henrik Schwarz' classic "Words In Return" and in the process demonstrates an incredibly mature restraint, with precise and calculated efforts which results in an enchanting trip.
