Review: Hagelstein is one of the most respected German minimal house producers, and his relationship with Watergate goes back a few years. On his latest venture for the Berlin label, he ventures far down the trippy path. "Dematerialize" featuring Justin Evans, is a psychedelic slice of modern house that resounds to acid-inspired gurgles unfolding over a pulsating groove. "Forward Vision" is a more heads-down affair and sees Hagelstein serve up a brooding, atmospheric minimal house track that climaxes to a wild acid segue, while the label has also tapped Martin Buttrich to rework "Dematerialize". In his hands, it turns into a linear, wiry groove that's even more bugged out than the original.

Adana Twins - "Etah" - (6:57) 122 BPM
Marco Resmann - "Modius" - (7:35) 123 BPM
Tiefschwarz - "Backyard" - (8:04) 124 BPM
Review: For the sophomore installment of their various artists series, Watergate Affairs, the Berlin clubbing institution brings you three heroes of the capital's scene. Legend Ruede Hagelstein presents the deep and emotive "Flash Ball" that meets at the intersection between tech house and nu disco with its powerful chords hypnotizing you into submission. Next up Hamburg duo Adana Twins serve up the slinky and bumping dancefloor atmosphere of "Eta"; a suspense filled dark journey track and another local stalwart in the form of Marco Resmann provides the tough main room ecstasy of "Modius". Souvenir Records head honchos Tiefschwarz also step in to give you thre rather Innervisions sounding "Backyard" which ia a druggy moody late night cut that's geared for some proper strobe-lit epiphanies on the club's famous dancefloor next Sunday morning.

Review: Ruede Hagelstein's "Footprints" was an instant hit when it hit our charts earlier this year, but we would never expect anything less from both this exciting newcomer and Berlin's mythical Watergate label. This time, however, he's joined by a number of different producers for a remix frenzy of his popular tune, and it starts with The Drifter's summery, dubbed-out version that is simply magnetic. Hagelstein drops a remix of his own tune, too, and it's an all-out hypnotic affair with full steam ahead on the minimalism, whereas Can Love Be Synth drop a beautiful glow of romanticism and '80s flair on their version. The dub, as you'd expect, takes the original to a moodier, more beat-heavy terrain.

Watergate 13
Watergate 13 (continues DJ mix) - (1:13:08) 123 BPM
Review: Hagelstein is best known for his melodic take on minimal house for labels like Souvenir and Upon You, but it's clear that he's also a skilful selector. The thirteenth Watergate takes the listener on that often alluded to journey; from the smoky strings of Prins Thomas' intro into bassy, drugged out house jams from Don Disco, Chris Wood and Strangers in Heaven. The selection then veers into tranced out tracks by Hagelstein himself and The Cheapers, before setting course for US deep house nirvana courtesy of Marshall Jefferson and Mike Dunn, only to emerge into the dubby chords and fey vocals of Losoul's "Open Door".
