Well Street

Hailing from the heart of London's E9 district, Well Street Records has carved a niche for itself since its founding in 2017. This independent label champions the sounds of broken beat techno, a genre characterized by its pulsating rhythms, genre-bending influences, and a distinctly underground feel.
Well Street's dedication to the genre is evident in their releases. They've consistently put out music that pushes boundaries, from the intricate techno and drum & bass explorations of Loop LF to the "next wave" sounds praised in their "Various - WSR VA2" compilation. Their artist roster reflects this commitment, featuring established names like Robert Fleck alongside rising stars like Box 5ive and Cousin.
The label's visual identity is equally distinctive. They collaborate with artist Bloody Bishop to create eye-catching artwork that complements the music's energy. This cohesive approach extends to their online presence, where their Bandcamp page [Well Street Records Bandcamp] acts as a hub for fans to discover new sounds and delve deeper into the Well Street world.
Well Street Records has established itself as a key player in London's vibrant electronic music scene. Their unwavering focus on broken beat techno, coupled with their dedication to quality and fresh talent, ensures they'll continue to unearth and nurture the genre's next generation.

Review: Up next on Well Street is Toupaz with an offbeat take on techno. "Shapeshift" starts the release to the sound of hollowed out, jittery percussion and ambient noise occupying the middle distance. This abstract arrangement is held together by a brooding bass and a stepping rhythm. "Bad Habits" ventures farther down the left-of-centre rabbit hole courtesy of a stop-start groove and a tapestry of found sounds. "Gaudy" marks a return of sorts to the dance floor, albeit one that is powered by a swung rhythm and a cacophony of chants. However, it's only a temporary distraction and "Maudlin Lakitu" is a downtempo, reflective piece.
