Review: Always considered one of the key protagonists of the Scandinavian Skweee scene, Metske has surprisingly few releases to his belt but this move to Nottingham's Wigflex imprint makes for a logical step, as the label shares a similar passion for glossy and yet proudly wonky electro funk contorted into all manner of grooves. Splitting the EP with Wigflex regular Metaphi, Metske's tracks are both slow rocking jams that feed in an interesting spread of samples from bluesy harmonicas to dramatic violins. Meanwhile Metaphi has a more propulsive 4/4 funk behind his beats, keeping the psychedelic globules of synth moving forwards, not least on the fist-shaking weirdo funk of "Mess Mode".

All Those Weird Things
Lone - "All Those Weird Things" - (4:50) 129 BPM Hot
Played by: Alphabet City
Review: Ever a dazzling and surprising upstart in the UK scene, Lone once again slaps his multicoloured hand across your chops with a loose and funky take on the wonkier side of house music. Wigflex is certainly the right label to be dropping this kind of track, being particularly adept at knowing a cheeky dose of silly but slick party fodder when they hear it. The beats bump hard on this tune, but really it's the loping lead melody that makes this the kind of jam that will stop the dance in its tracks and cause mass-hysterical body popping.

Shortstuff - "Regression" - (7:13) 140 BPM Hot
Taylor - "Squeege" - (7:35) 127 BPM
Review: Two standout tracks from Nottingham's Wigflex label, with Blunted Robots' Shortstuff making an appearance with the melancholic funk of "Regression" - a heart-wrenching tune with gated marimbas picking out a melody worthy of the closing titles of your favourite film, pepped up by some delicately thin percussion that works together beautifully. Taylor also goes for an emotional stab, with delayed chords staying rooted to one note in a post-rock style over some simple but effective beats. Very very cool indeed.
