Review: Within The Woods always try their best to replicate the no-holds-barred, anarchic nature of
music that's properly dancefloor and they do so via the aggressive tones of modern D&B. This is a best-of compilation of tracks that have come out through the label and it puts that ethos on good display, featuring some seriously weighty acts like DJ Direkt and Radical. The former's several contributions are especially potent, a gargling display of production intensity and a lesson to all budding artists out there in how to create a knockout jump-up track, with biting bass stabs teaching you all you need to know. Radical's Sound Killah is equally as naughty and rests on a potent set of drum hits, giving it an extra oomph that you can certainly hear. The others are just as good - check them.

Review: Brighton badmen from Within The Woods creep out with a straight-up remix swapsie situation as Bomber Man and Stillz go toe-to-toe on their recent wounders. Bomber Man adds a dark squelsh and technoid twist to Stillz' "Ready To Hang" while Stillz deeps-up "Chuck" with a dustier, hazy texture and more of a purr to the bassline. Nice display of remixcraft right here; the originals are paid full respect but just nudged in different directions. Within The Woods have been smashing it lately, don't sleep on them.
Review: DJ Direkt is over on Within The Woods and with this single takes you on a rough and ready journey through rolling D&B, one that's characterised by its reliance on the best elements of the older school of 170 sonics: big drum hits, creative sampling and a complete lack of pretentiousness or over-engineering. 'Drop' is exactly that and we love the spoken sample that rolls out over the whole tune, whilst 'Take A While' finishes things off in style as well. Wicked.
Review: If you like huge, rambunctious drums then this release will almost certainly be up your street. The 'drums' in D&B come first for a reason and that's because they're the most essential element to any 170 track, with all the energy and momentum being carried in the percussion. Bomber Man knows this, clearly, because both sides to this single absolutely stomp in this area. Both 'Deuce Crew' and 'Chuck' pair these drums with gnarly stabs and gargled, twisted low frequencies and it works brilliantly. Proper stuff this.
Review: Radical has come out with a blinding two-tracker here, both of which are deep, dark rollers with a bite and a half. There's something really nice about this middle ground stuff: it's heavy enough to give you a bass face but still measured and sophisticated enough for wicked home listening. 'Orbit's is definitely on the higher end of the spectrum, with a twisting, snarling set of pads and basses which make for a foreboding, intimidating start to the single. 'Bloodfiyah' is a bit more mellow, bit more stripped back but still packs a punch. Naughty.
Review: Within The Woods always try their best to replicate the no-holds-barred, anarchic nature of life in the woods and they do so via the aggressive tones of modern D&B. This is a best-of compilation of tracks that have come out through the label and it puts that ethos on good display, featuring some seriously weighty acts like Thierry D and DJ Direkt. The former's contributions are especially potent, gargling displays of production intensity and a lesson to all budding artists out there in how to create a knockout heavy track, with biting bass stabs teaching you all you need to know. DJ Direkt's 'Runn' is equally as naughty but it rests on a much more potent set of drum hits, giving it an extra oomph that you can certainly hear. The others are just as good - check em.
