Z Records

Dave Lee aka Joey Negro (up until 2020 and a long list of other aliases) founded London-based label Z Records in 1990. Z Records followed on from his 1988-established label Republic Records, ‘which remains for many, the foundation stone of the UK house scene’. From disco to house, funk and soul, anything that Z Records touches sparkles like diamonds under any disco ball. Stand-out releases from the label include Joey Negro’s ‘Make A Move On Me’, his extended disco mix of Christopher Cross’ ‘Run Like The Wind’ and Moodena’s remix of ‘Big Blow’.

Never Gonna Give You Up (Joey Negro Remixes)
Never Gonna Give You Up (Joey Negro Re-Grooved mix) - (6:02) 120 BPM Hot
Never Gonna Give You Up (Joey Negro Re-Grooved instrumental) - (6:34) 120 BPM
Review: Though not as celebrated as some of its contemporaries, Patrice Rushen's 1980 single "Never Gonna Give You Up" is undoubtedly a breezy, sweet-as-sugar disco treat. It arguably didn't need remixing, though if there's one man guaranteed to give it a great makeover it's housemaster turned disco don Joey Negro. He delivers killer vocal and instrumental versions, both of which give more prominence to the original beats, killer bassline, spacey synths and horns, waiting to introduce the sweeping orchestration - a dominant feature of Rushen's 1980 version - until the later stages of the track. They're the kind of mixes Tom Moulton may have produced back in the day, and there's no higher praise for a disco remixer than that.

Vertigo (dub) - (5:48) 122 BPM
Review: If this sounds like the work of NYC disco band Escort, there's a very good reason - both the producer "JKriv" and guest vocalist, Adeline, are both members of the band. The good news is that "Vertigo" is every bit as good as Escort's finest moments (think "Starlight", "Love in Indigo", "A Bright New Life" etc.), with Adeline providing a stellar vocal atop JKriv's killer bassline, pianos, strings and Nile Rodgers style guitars. The accompanying "Dub" rework is naturally a little heavier and more arpeggio-driven, with JKriv making great use of carefully placed dub delays and cosmic noises.

Lose Yourself To The Groove (Joey Negro Future Boogie instrumental) - (7:02) 108 BPM
Review: As the title suggests, this tasty EP sees Z Records boss Dave Lee AKA Joey Negro get his hands on two popular cuts by contemporary American electrofunk outfit The APX. Lee does a particularly impressive job on "Sweet Surrender", first laying down a club-ready '80s soul style vocal revision full of elastic synth-bass, Jam and Lewis chords and Midnight Starr guitar hooks, before delivering a sparse, groove-driven and delay-laden Dub that's so authentic to the duo's 1980s inspirations that it could have been released by Solar Records in 1984. The same could arguably be said about the slower and even more loved-up flex of Lee's "Future Boogie" mix of "Lose Yourself To The Groove", which is available in both vocal and instrumental flavours.

Distorting Space Time (Fouk remix) - (6:51) 122 BPM
Distorting Space Time (original album mix) - (8:37) 122 BPM
Review: Less than a month after Joey Negro dropped the original version of "Distorting Space Time" - a Lonnie Liston-Smith inspired chunk of intergalactic party disco rich in trippy instrumentation - as part of the vinyl-only Space Time EP, we're treated to a digital edition containing a trio of tasty reworks. Top of the pile is deep house don Ron Trent's sublime revision, which is not only typically warm, woozy and percussion rich, but also makes great use of dub delays and Joey Nergo's spacey FX. Elsewhere, Fouk successfully breaks up the beats on a formidably jazzy and bass-heavy interpretation, while Negro's own "Space Funk" take sits somewhere between luscious turn-of-the-80s jazz-funk and starlit electrofunk. The producer's use of crunchy Clavinet lines and talkbox scat vocals is particularly alluring.

Review: It may have taken eight years, but Joey Negro has finally got round to putting together a follow-up to his superb Backstreet Brit Funk compilation. Like its predecessor, this sequel shines a light on Britain's under-appreciated musical response to the U.S soul, jazz-funk, disco and electro scenes of the late 70s and early 80s. On the whole, the showcased tracks are altogether deeper selections than those found on volume one, meaning obscure highlights come thick and fast. These include - but definitely aren't limited to - the low-slung disco-funk of Rick Clarke's "Potion", the glassy-eyed breeziness of Paradise's "Stop and Think", the footworker-friendly jazz-funk riot of Touchdown's "Ease Your Mind" and the samba-soaked carnival flavours of "Brazeila" by Brazeila. Oh, and a killer dub of Janet Kay's overlooked Brit-boogie classic "Eternally Grateful" that has never before been released.

Review: Joey Negro's "Love Hangover", a brilliant disco-house cover of the Diana Ross classic of the same name, is the gift that keeps on giving. Here, the eight anniversary 2016 re-master is bundled with two brand new re-rubs by Micky More and Andy Tee. They begin with the "Classic Disco Blend" revision, which is notably looser and more orchestrated in tone than Joey Negro's disco-house original, with the duo allowing every instrument used to sparkle at some point in the mix a-la original Salsoul mixer Tom Moulton. In contrast, their "Groove Culture Blend" beefs up the bottom end and loops key sections for a heavier disco-house vibe.

Review: For the sixth instalment in Z Records impeccable "Under The Infliuence" series of crate-digging compilations, boss man Dave Lee (AKA Joey Negro) has turned to fellow London scene veterans Simon and Robin Lee, AKA Faze Action. Their selections are, as expected, superb, mixing their own edits of familiar favourites (Midway's ace "Set It Off" and Mikki's "Dance Lover" for starters) with material that's as obscure and over-looked as you'd expect. Standouts in the latter category include the smooth '80s boogie of Leston Paul's "All Nite Tonight", the sublime Afro-disco of Bebe Manga, the thrillingly up-tempo hustle of Oscar Perry's "Body Movements", some superb South American disco from Don Lurio and Michele Claire's lesser-known version of disco favourite "In The Bush".

Review: While Dave Lee (best-known as Joey Negro) has always dealt in disco-fied dancefloor grooves, few of his projects are quite as mirrorball-focused as his Doug Willis material. Here he dons the tongue-in-cheek, Neighbours-inspired alias for the first time in four years. There are two fresh cuts to set the pulse racing: the jaunty, piano-heavy, slightly housed-up gospel disco swirl of happy-go-lucker opener "Risky Biznizz" and the heady, heavily orchestrated peak-time disco brilliance of "Doug's Disco Theme", whose stabbing string motifs are particularly memorable. Also included in the EP are two fresh remixes of Willis classics, with Dr Packer's smooth, delay-laden, roller disco-goes-deep house version of "Skate Dancer" just edging out the tougher Re-Tide & Moon Rocket disco-house rework of "Crystal Lover".

Review: Part two of a picture sleeve, special release for Record Store Day 2018, featuring new and exclusive remixes of American legend D.C. LaRue. "Overture" (Folamour Orchestra mix) sees the French rising star deliver a glimmering boogie-down perspective for the late night, while Crazy P main man James Baron dons the Ron Basejam alias again - for a sunny dub of "Do You Want The Real Thing?" from the 1978 motion picture Thank God It's Friday. The always reliable Idjut Boys lend their deft hands to a remix of "Let Them Dance" from 1978's classic Confessions LP and closing out this fine remix package on the flip is the Razor-N-Tape affiliated J-Kriv: serving up another 'respectful edit', this time of "Cathedrals".

Review: Back in the day, D.C LaRue was one of the undoubted stars of the underground disco scene, so it makes perfect sense that Z Records boss Dave Lee has bagged a swathe of new remixes. Lee dons the familiar Joey Negro alias to kick things off with a brilliant extended interpretation of all-time LaRue fave "Cathedrals", before Ron Basejam wraps spacey synth solos and fluttering flutes around a killer slow disco groove on his fantastic rub of "Do You Want The Real Thing". Elsewhere, Glitterbox regular Dr Packer provides a rolling, delay-laden take on "Indiscreet" rich in killer disco interpretation that could well be the EP's highlight, while the Idjut Boys serve up a typically trippy, dub disco powered "Beats" version of "Let Them Dance".

Review: For the uninitiated, Detroit Rising is a fluid collective of leading jazz and funk musicians from the Motor City, including former members of P-funk legends Parliament/Funkadelic. Here, "Little Bit", one of the highlights from the band's latest album, A Cosmic Jazz-Funk Adventure, is given a club makeover by Z Records regular Sean McCabe. As you'd expect, the Bristol-based Welshman's main "Remix" is a simmering soulful house delight, with superb new instrumentation complimenting Detroit Rising's on-point original parts. The "Dub" is slightly breezier and sunnier interpretation, while the "Moody Mix" doffs a cap to the soulful deep house electronics of long serving British deep house producer Atjazz.

Review: Five years ago, Shur-I-Kan successfully reworked "Smile", a 2012 single from Dave Lee's lesser-known Mistura project. Such was the success of Tom Szirtes's re-rubs that Lee has asked the former Freerange man to provide rubs of the previously unheard Mistura cut "Love to the Limit". There's a wonderfully positive, retro-futurist feel to the veteran producer's Club Mix, which weaves Bridgett Grace's classic-sounding vocal in and out of a backing track laden with jaunty New Jersey organ stabs, sweeping chords and a tactile, early U.S garage groove. It comes accompanied by two late night dubs: the muscular, driving deepness of the Request Dub, where filtered piano riffs and delay-laden vocal snippets cluster around a thumping groove, and the Tony Humphries-meets-Frankie Knuckles flex of the wonderfully warm Zanzibar Dub.

Review: During the British jazz-dance scene's late '70s and early '80s boom, there were few DJs that the dancers loved more than Colin Curtis. Still DJing today after 50 years behind the decks, Curtis was a natural choice to put together Z Records' first compilation dedicated to jazz-dance, jazz-funk and fusion sounds. The album is something of a stunner, all told, full of deep selections, floor-burning favourites and high-grade workouts. There's naturally plenty of Latin jazz flavours on show, high-octane thrillers (See Eric Kloss's "The Samba Express"), swinging jazz-funk (check the superb Charles Earland track) and the kind of extended wig-outs that just make you want to bust some serious shapes.

The songwriter, producer and musician has been a member of some legendary funk, soul and disco outfits over the years, including Earth, Wind and Fire and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band. Here, UK disco/house titan Joey Negro sprinkles some magic on a previously unheard cut from the veteran's "Allstars" project. Predictably, the Z Records boss does a terrific job gently building up the instrumentation and vocals on his Extended Remix, turning in a superb retro-futurist disco-funk workout. As well as a great Instrumental version you also get a sparse, delay-laden, Dub style "Reprise" that's every bit as funky as its' predecessors despite its lack of heavy kicks and snares.

Till You Surrender
Till You Surrender (DJ Fudge Disco mix) - (7:01) 123 BPM
Review: Those with good memories may remember the original version of "Surrender". A big disco-house number in Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee's classic style, the Taka Boom-voiced club anthem first hit stores way back in 2001. While that release was full of filter-heavy funky and soulful house versions, this revived edition re-invents it as a sweeping, string-drenched disco treat. In other words, DJ Fudge's fresh remix is more Salsoul than Daft Punk; so much so, in fact, that it feels like a long lost relic of the original disco era, rather than a remix of a 16 year-old soulful house bomb. If you dig disco, then you really need it in your life.

Latican Boogie (album version) - (5:44) 115 BPM
Review: A chilled Brazilian-tinged boogie cut from the recent Joey Negro epic entitled Produced With Love gets transformed into a piano fuelled, peaktime banger by Swedish jazz musician/producer Crackazat. He retains the Latino flavour of the original but 'adds bags of dance floor energy.' Dave Lee has been one of the most prolific producers in dance music over the last three decades and we would highly recommend the album to anyone who considers themselves a fan of proper house, disco or soul music. It features collaborations with such legends as Diane Charlemagne, Linda Clifford and Alex Mills. In addition to remixes of recent heroes of the scene such as Horse Meat Disco and Peven Everett.

Review: Half the fun of each new Ibiza season is the accompanying DJ mix albums that ensue. Here it's the turn of Z Records' legend, Joey Negro, who compiles and selects Z Records Presents Ibiza 2017. With Joey Negro you know you will always get an expert blend of house and disco, new and old. Here we see exclusives rub shoulders with first time digital virgins. Highlights include Dr Packer's thumping edit of "Change Position (88)" by Brooklyn Express, the hazy bass twangs of "Phantom" by A Band Called Flash and the warm electro of "It's More Fun To Compute" by Negro himself.

Review: Influential and prolific, Dave Lee has been one of house music's major proponents of soulful, disco-tinged, vocal tracks. Without question, he was instrumental in its development. Produced With Love is only the second ever Joey Negro album to be released and the first for more than 20 years. It proves that dance music with character still exists and rather than rely on sampling older records, the overwhelming majority of music is newly recorded. Rest assured that there's quite the supporting cast here, on the vocal front: the late great Diane Charlemagne on "Overnight Sensation", Canadian songstress and frequent Nick Holder collaborator Sacha Williamson on "I Recognize" and the legendary Linda Clifford on "Won't Let Go". Fellow London disco dons Horsemeat Disco collaborate on "Dancing Into The Stars" too. The second half of the collection focuses on Lee's impeccable remixes and yes: there is a version of "Must Be The Music" and a track by the inimitable Peven Everett entitled "Love Is Thicker Than Water" alongside several other gems.

Review: While Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee is a man of many talents, it would be fair to say that his speciality is creating impeccable blends of disco, boogie and soulful house. That's exactly what you get from "Must Be The Music (Original Disco Mix)", a brilliantly breezy and club-ready excursion full of slick female vocals, Nile Rodgers style guitars, undulating strings and colourful, boogie style synth flourishes. In some ways, it feels like a slightly more house-centric take on Lee's similarly minded work as part of the Sunburst Band. It's accompanied by a superb dub, where Lee's chosen musicians take it in turns to deliver killer synth and guitar solos over a chunkier, boogie-driven beat. In other words, it's another strong release from the Z Records founder.

Review: Z Records head honcho, Joey Negro, is back with a super sunny party jam, "Stomp Your Feet", of which the "Extended Mix" is a warm and bouncy retro boogie clap-fest. Negro also provides a spicier dub and the Tropical percussion loop-fest "Stomp Your Beats". However it's Hot Toddy's remixes here, a pulsating arpeggiated space-disco rework of the tile track and a fizzy and aquatic "Underwater Dub", that really stand out.

Review: Opolopo barely puts a foot wrong, so it's little surprise to find that this collection of Bits N Bobs is really rather good. Highlights include the sparkling, jazz funk-goes-deep house swing of "Put Your Cap On", the P-funk bass and squiggly D-Train synths of "Spray Tan" and the swirling, life-affirming disco-house bump of "Stroke My Disco", where cut-glass string loops and crunchy Clavinet lines ride a relentless groove. Elsewhere, he further enhances his disco/house fusion credentials via the intricately produced, musically expansive warmth of "The Lakedown Stomp", before rounding things off via the bubbly Dam Funk synth solos, Chez Damier chords and snare-heavy drums of jammed-out highlight "Eventide".

Review: Over the years, Joey Negro has delivered compilations focusing on a wide range of styles and sub-genres, including soulful disco, Italo-house, early U.S disco-rap, and Washington D.C go-go. Now he's turned his attention to electro, the style that did more than any other to inspire Britain's first wave of DJs and dance music producers. This "personal collection" contains a mixture of stone-cold scene classics - Aleem's Leroy Burgess-fronted "Release Yourself", Hashim's scene anthem "Al Naayafiysh (The Soul)" and Dwayne Omar's P-funk influenced "This Party's Jam Packed" - alongside deeper selections such as Kosmic Light Force's brilliant - and hard to find - L.A electrofunk classic "Mysterious Waves", and The Russell Brothers thrillingly intergalactic "The Party Scene".

Review: With the 2016 Ibiza summer season in full swing, Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee has gathered together a bumper collection of label tracks that are currently doing the business on the White Isle. There are few surprises amongst the 28 selections - think swinging piano-house, soulful grooves, sun-kissed broken beat, contemporary disco reworks and synth-heavy boogie-house - but the quality threshold remains remarkably high throughout. Highlights include Lee's glistening 2016 re-rub of his vintage Doug Willis anthem "Spread Love", a deliciously loose and synth-laden Fouk rework of The Sunburst Band, the bad-ass boogie business of Spirit Catcher's "Rendez-Vous", and a killer 1995 rework of Fonda Rae's "Over Like A Fat Rat" from U.S house legend Victor Simonelli.

Review: It's always a joy when a new Under The Influence compilation arrives from Z Records HQ. Even better when it's curated by none other than Sean P, the veteran disco/boogie producer pal of Joey Negro. Sean's diggin' skills are so legendary he even had his own section in the Music & Video Exchange and here he puts these skills to use, rustling up 27 dance obscurities. Highlights include the lo-fi UK funk jam "Bye Bye Baby" by Joanne Ellis, the dubbed-out punky bass mantra "Trinidad Rock" by King David and the percussion frenzy of Jimmy Spencer's mad cover of "Summertime".

Review: Chicago's Kenya is a housewife who became an esteemed Christian soul singer following a 'cosmic enlightenment' that showed her the way. Having heard "Let Me" (from her My Own Skin album), Joey Negro has signed her up, enlisting Sean McCabe to rework the tune for the right kind of dancefloors. Clocking in around nine minutes, the "vocal mix" a smooth and luxurious ride through vintage jazzy house, dripping in golden-toned Fender Rhodes chords. Elsewhere there's the aquatic sounding '90s retro house of the "Let Me Out Dub" and the Brand New Heavies-esqe organic jazz-funk of the "Classic Soul Mix". Chic.

Review: Hailing from Wales, but Bristol-based and with his heart even further afield, Sean McCabe is a strong UK presence on the international soulful house circuit thanks to album, It's Time. "Everything's Alright" was on that LP and it now gets a variety of remix treatments; Art Of Tones opts for breezy, melodic production, complete with New York organ riffs and hints of gospel. Elsewhere McCabe delivers his own dub version which is much more clubbier and boasts a slight speed garage edge. Also included is the ponderous "Love For Life" which is presented in two deeper forms by John Morales.

Review: Given his credentials and track record, it's unsurprising that original disco and boogie artists are willing to let Joey Negro play around with their biggest hits. His first stab at this kind of multi-track remix, 2014's Remixed With Love, was such a success that he's decided to unleash another swathe of revisions over two vinyl double-packs. This edition features some killer reworks, including a sublime, on-point rearrangement of Gwen McRae's "Keep The Fire Burning" and a rolling, dubbed-out version of Grace Jones' "Pull Up To The Bumper" that rivals Larry Levan's classic remix. The veteran producer also successfully turns Pockets' "Come Go With Me" into a classic soulful house rub, and pushes Thelma Houston's "I'm Here Again" further towards disco anthem territory.

Review: Released last June, Opolopo's Superconductor LP, is the gift that keeps on giving. We've had a string of album tracks remixed ever since and here is the latest batch. First up Nachtbreaker tackles Feels Good 2 Me, delivering a muscular, celebratory house workout in the process. The euphoria escalates on Rhemi's rework of "Spare Me The Details" - all jazzy synths and sing-along vocals. There's even an instrumental in case the latter proves a bit too much for those who don't like to be distracted from the groove.

Here's his take on the year that was and it's brimming with 19 rich and rewarding gems to see us through the holidays. Highlights include the deep gospel shuffle of "Reach Out (Atjaz remix)" by Sean McCabe, the sizzling crackle of camp disco accelerator "Unique (New York Underground mix)" by Danube Dance & Kim Cooper and Pezzner's warm synth funk rework of "Candy Coated Perfection" by Opolopo and Diane Charlemagne.

Review: With Christmas party season in full swing, Joey Negro has decided to reissue a couple of classic jams from his disco/boogie/jazz-funk revival project, The Sunburst Band. Both "Here Comes The Sunburst Band" and "U Make Me Hot" were featured on the expansive live outfit's 1998 debut album, and one of the contained remixes of the latter track - by long-serving smooth groover Yam Who - first saw the light of day on vinyl in 2004. The other remixes, though, are brand new. Fouk turns "Here Comes The Sunburst Band" into a spiraling, toughened-up disco-house smasher, before jazz-leaning producer Daniel Producer delivers vocal and instrumental versions of "U Make Me Hot" that sit somewhere between smooth hip-hop soul and vintage Herbie Hancock.

Review: Hit makers Rodgers and Edwards' mammothly influential Chic songs enjoy one of the finest curatorial salutes from UK disco's most discerning torch-bearer/creator Dave Lee. Digging deep into his vaults and unearthing some of the best homages, references and blatant covers, Negro join the dots and delivers some rarities you may have never heard before. Get lost in the music of She's shiny guitar strumming "Easy Money", freak out to Charanga 76's "Good Times" and get lucky with Van Jones's "Not About That"... Everyone knows about the hits and influence, most of us know how important a role Chic played in sample culture but Negro has gone the extra mile to celebrate some of the lesser known references Chic have had over the years. Freaking great.

Review: Culled from their recent LP, Superconductor, Opolopo's "Candy Coated Perfection" has now been given an extra lease of life through a whole host of new mixes. They're nearly all by Prezzner, mind, but he's a really good remixer so it's all good. His Solar Dub may eschew the original's honeyed vocals but it's a killer slice of spacey leftfield disco. Elsewhere his Swingset mix appears to sample the sound of tennis racquets in a sleek, linear jack-a-thon, and the DeejayKul Meets Soultechnic rework of "The Best' is a delicious slice of deep n' jazzy soulful house.

Review: Few British DJs have such an instinctive grasp of '90s house and garage as Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee - he was a major player on the scene during the period, of course - so it's little surprise that the Essex producer's recent tribute comp was rather special. This sampler contains five killer tracks from the compilation, including some genuinely hard-to-find gems. Kerri Chandler's frisky, sweaty, and oh-so percussive "Ladbroke Grove" is arguably one of the great man's lesser-known classics, while the FK Groove rework of Mood II Swing and Fonda Rae's "Living In Ecstasy" is a classic chunk of soulful US house that's well worth revisiting. USG's "Ncameau", meanwhile, still goes for silly money on vinyl, and sees Ron Trent effortlessly fuse deep and soulful house with the assistance of Peven Everett (on trumpet, bizarrely) and Anthony Nicholson. All killer, no filler.

Review: It wouldn't be summer without every house label under the sun releasing an Ibiza-themed compilation. To be fair to Dave Lee's long-running Z Records imprint, they've been delivering White Isle-themed collections every summer for many years. Given that their sound - a blend of funk-fuelled grooves, soulful house, tech-tinged anthems, disco re-edits, boogie revivalism and classic US garage influences - is well suited to sun-drenched alfresco parties, it's little surprise to find that Z Records Presents Ibiza 2015 is rather good. While much of the standout material comes from Lee himself under a variety of guises (check, in particular, the Doug Willis jam "Crystal Lover"), there are also top-notch cuts from Sean McCabe, Opolopo and Fibre Foundation, whose cover of disco/boogie classic "Weekend" is simply superb.

Review: Here Z Records boss Joey Negro presents his own take on the everlasting 90s revival. Just like on all his other projects he's dug deeper to present gems the label say may have until now slipped under the garage doors (i.e. haven't yet been granted digital immortality). Highlights of these 26 rarities include Robert Owens' smooth n' sultry synth jam "Gotta Work", the bitchy disco of "Unique" by Danube Dance & Kim Cooper and the raw attitude of Mike Delgado's "The Murder Track". With this fine release, who needs a time machine?

Review: In recent years, Dave Lee seems to have been concentrating on remixes, compilations and side projects. As a result, "I Can Hear Your Body Rock" is, somewhat surprisingly, the first original Joey Negro single for two years. As you might expect, it's a deliciously summery affair that effortlessly joins the dots between piano house, early '90s US garage and '80s boogie. Lee concentrates on the latter on the alternative Serious Mix, which pleasingly sits somewhere between the delay-laden proto-house of Paul Simpson's Serious Intention project, and breezy early '90s house. For those who just want more pianos, Lee also obliges with the sumptuous "Pianohead Dub".

Review: Six years on from launching the It's A Summer Groove series, Joey Negro returns with a fifth selection of sunshine-friendly tracks from the Z Records vaults. While much of the label's output - soulful, accessible, funky and heavily influenced by disco, funk and boogie - could be described as "summery", there's something particularly bright and breezy about the 21 tracks gathered together here. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the smooth disco-soul goodness of the Reflex's recent remix of the Sunburst Band's "The Secret Life of Us", and the terrace-friendly piano house of Shur-I-Kan's rework of Zo & Erro & Phonte, to the vibraphone-laden boogie-house goodness of Rainbow Connection and Taka Boom's "Surrender".

Opolopo: The Best
The Best (club mix) - (7:05) 124 BPM
Get On Up (album mix) - (5:34) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Given Opolopo's impressive track record over the last decade check his releases on Especial Records, Local Talk, Swedish Brandy and Sick Trumpet for proof. You'd expect this outing on Z Records to be rather tasty and of course it is, with Colonel Red collaboration "The Best" delivering a killer chunk of house-tinged contemporary electrofunk. Full of vintage-sounding synths, classic percussion touches, clipped guitars and wonderful vocals, it's a soulful delight. "Get On Up" is almost as good, offering up a breezy blend of piano house, undulating synth bass and late '80s US garage flourishes. It's the sound of summer - for those enjoy their music warm, positive, synth-heavy and soulful, at least.

Do What You Feel (2015 Remixes)
Do What You Feel (JN Revival mix) - (5:50) 122 BPM Hot
Do What You Feel (Supernova mix) - (7:16) 122 BPM
Do What You Feel (Steve Mill mix) - (7:17) 123 BPM
Review: An eight-minute slice of celebratory slinky funk, Do What You Feel originally appeared on this veteran DJs Universe Of Love album. Now it's back in remixed form to keep the party going nicely. This time there are three incarnations - JN Revival's deep and punchy vintage handbaggy vibes, Supernova's bassier stoned acid and the warm funky house joy of Steve Mill's rework.
