Review: Reflective as ever, Need For Mirrors remains ahead of the curve with this oceanic new EP. From the moment the opener 'Manta' melts into view, you know he's onto the good stuff. Deep, expansive and histrionic-free, this is ice cold D&B science from edge to edge. 'Perp' hits with an acid house style funk while 'Dribble' goes full techno with a strong sense of electroid funk. Last but not least the title track splashes down with a powerful 'Lambo' style growl. Have a whale of a time.
Review: Following cameos and link-ups on Ram and Souped Up, Need For Mirrors returns with his first full EP since his Liberation Dub EP in the summer. Four tracks spanning the entire spectrum, as always, he's packing some very interesting ideas and new sounds. 'Happy Mondays' goes for the introspective shufflers, 'Tonk' is a big hypnotic vibe that suddenly breaks into an awesome synth bass riff, 'Keyboard Warrior' is jazzier than 100 passive aggressive memes (and thrice as funky) while 'Nerd' clips, clops, burps and bumps with mesmerising effect. Always in a league of his own.
Review: No one delivers like Need For Mirrors. Whether it's Full Cycle, V, Horizons, his and Bailey's Soul In Motion imprint or his own Zoltar, the proliferation and subversion levels are always ridiculously on point... And always come with a cool unpredictable air. Here he's being extra generous with five tracks: "Hazy" hits with a 3am smoked-out feel thanks to its dramatic droning intro and pristine depth plunge bass drop, "Migration Of Meaning" slaps and tickles with his signature off-beat finger clicks and soulful snippets, while "Life Cycle" takes us back to the school of Photek with sublime space-out drum edits. Elsewhere "Bandulu" is a raffish rattler that refuses to lose momentum no matter how many spooked-out FX and textures NFM throws into the brew. Finally "Grey Scale" takes us deep down the techno rabbit hole in a way only the Zoltar bossman knows how. Buckle up.
