Review: Jurassik's arms must have muscles like Popeye; he's been flying the breakbeat flag harder than most over the last few years, and you can really tell in his productions. Rolling with a swift and skippy nu jungle feel, "Microphone" is an Amen-laden tune so sharp it would make Rennie Pilgrem blush. "Where It's At" is a more experimental take on breaks, and sounds all the better for it; spooky, cascading noises, bashy beats and warped processed noises barge and beef their way amid the mix, creating a truly unique record that plunders from the past and delivers directly to the future.
Review: Out on London label iBreaks Bass, Latvian trio Under This deliver a sharp yet progressive banger in the shape of the third instalment of their "Ruff Stuff" EP. Using some heavy kicks and snares coupled with a chunky, upfront attack bass and some anthemic vocal hooks, not to mention a classic piano-house breakdown, Under This forge a sound that's aimed straight at a up-for-it 2am dancefloor on the huge "Here We Go Again". On the flip, "Flashback" is more of a 2-step influenced breaks banger, complete with some astral leads and some shivering dubstep bass.
Review: Usually, when a track is titled "Euphoria" you know what to expect. That's certainly the case here, as Under This deliver a booty-shaking breaks concoction that should deliver much arms-aloft delirium at those clubs that still rock to the breakbeat sound. Much of its dancefloor power doesn't come from the formidable low end, but rather some neat cut-up garage riffs and vocal samples. Flipside "Trash The Disco" is an altogether angrier beast, coming on like Orbital's "Satan" after a particularly rough beating at the hands of Deekline and Nine Inch Nails.
