Review: The Forgotten Man brings us just under nine minutes of aural loveliness on noctu recordings, the London-based label he co-owns with fellow mystery man Mister Nick. Deep house with the very lightest of progressive twists is the order of the day, with 'Metaphysical Horizons' marrying warm, rounded 4/4s and insistent shakers to a throbbing Chi-town bassline and pads that just don't stop, then topping the lot with a melancholic, minor-key synth lead. That rather matter-of-fact description doesn't really do justice to the sheer lushness of the production, though, so put your headphones on and dive on in...
Review: Leading the charge for noctu is The Forgotten Man. Intuition is his third release on the emerging UK label, and like his previous outings, it sees him focus on the deeper end of the electronic music spectrum. The title track resounds to rumbling bass, evocative strings and steely drums, while on "Vimana", the mysterious producer ups the pace to deliver a drum-heavy workout shot through with a pulsating bass. At the same time, musical elements are never too far away and synths sweep through the arrangement. Last but not least is "Hyperloop", an evocative, swirling electro groove that resounds to hypnotic bleeps.
Review: The noctu label opens its account with three stunning techno tracks by The Forgotten Man. Inspired by the deep electronic music of early to mid 90s UK labels like B12 and Likemind, this is a largely reflective affair. The title track is the most uptempo piece on offer, resounding to brittle percussion and a growling bass, underpinning icy synths. On "In My Mind", the focus moves to rolling hi hats and inward-looking, mournful pads. Last but not least is "Renascent", where this mysterious producer delivers a windswept, slow-motion piece, replete with slow-motion tom toms. It brings an effortless end to this fine release.
