Review: Frankfurt innovator Rajko Muller returns as Isolee, working his magic this time for The Drifter's rather impressive Maeve imprint; which in recent times has brought us fantastic work by Ed Davenport, Baikal and Ripperton. "Pisco" is a slow burning groove with phased marimbas that cause a hypnotic dream state, while "L5 Syndrome" dives deeper: this smooth and introverted trip is definitely suited to the early night as it is for the afterhours and reminds us of his seminal, earlier works in the nineties for imprints like Playhouse. Finally, the title track is where Muller saves the best for last; this dubby, lo-slung groove is drenched in delayed and reverberated aesthetics. More great work by one of electronic music's true innovators.

Review: The first compilation on Koze's Pampa label is a lovingly curated affair. It starts with the left field house of Herbert's take on Lianne La Havas and Ada's r&b-infused "You & Me", as well as DJ Koze's own hymnal take on Roman Flugel's "9 Years". Other Pampa regulars like Axel Boman are well represented and he provides the ultra-mellow "In The Dust of This Planet". Equally though, Koze also provides a platform for newcomers to the fold. There's the utterly bizarre, glitch-hop of Nasrawi and Funskstorung's contributions, and at the other end of the spectrum, wide-eyed deep house from Mount Kimbie and Jamie xx & Kosi Kos' pumping indie-dance "Come We Go".

Second up "Something Special" goes down a luscious route with long, drawn-out synths, groovy bass and more summery female vocals. Mr Ahmed meanwhile takes remix duties for "Baby I Got It" and attacks with dark piercing twists and eerie turns.

Review: Here's proof that it's possible to be experimental within the context of the dance floor. Like Patrice Baumel's release on Get Physical a few years back, "Thunder Scat" dispenses entirely with a kick drum, preferring instead to focus on powerful subs, dense claps, a sassy vocal snippet looped to infinity and an utterly seductive tambourine riff. "Time" sees the Boys return with the 4/4 kick, but it remains understated, as a hypnotic organ riff provides the backing for an angelic vocal. Finally, "Black Naga" is the most conventional track of all, but here too the tribal groove features a sped-up vocal that sounds like someone hit the helium, and hard.

Review: Trelik returns with a reissued edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the accompanying "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike.

If that sounds too cosmic for you, then we recommend that you check out "Knee on Belly". It could be the German artist's version of '90s disco house, but realized against a gentle minimal house backdrop.

Review: Having given keen listeners a healthy preview in his Fabriclive mix last year, the artist formerly known as Stopmakingme delivers his full-length album for Erol Alkan's Phantasy Sound. It's a limber brew that channels a strong dose of analogue trickery through smart and snappy beat constructions, all bubbling, aquatic synths and troubled delays propelled by unfussy drum patterns so that the melodies can do the talking. Primarily this is a dancefloor album, moving from peppy breakbeat driven numbers to gently bumping house, but always the playful, ineffably warm synth work sets the tone, from "Naive Response"s robotic charm to "Drone Logic"s soaring grind. It's an album brimming in confidence and nailed with precision, and it's packed full of incredibly usable floor rockers to boot.

Review: Luke Vibert donned the Kerrier District moniker last year on the tremendous Kerrier District 4 album on Hypercolour, and here are the remixes. He's done alright; look at who he's got on board. First there's the Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer remix of "Sexspurt", which is long and as liquid and tripped out as you'd imagine. Bulgarian hardware maverick delivers the goods always on his funky, fierce and soulful rendition of "Techno Disco", it's quite brilliant actually. Finally the now legendary Rene Pavlowitz dons the Head High alter ego for a slamming warehouse rave makeover of "Come On Kerrier".

Review: It's been some time since Curtis Jones slipped into his Green Velvet nom de plume, but as Prince demonstrates, this comeback has been worth the wait. In its original format, its drums are rickety and sparse, but the bass grinds seductively and the vocal, claiming that an unidentified person is 'bigger than Prince', makes the track sound even more bugged out. Hot Since 82 add some beefed up, rolling drums and pitch the vocals way down, while the Martinez Brothers version is rooted in steely drums, shaking percussion and coated in a layer of grimy acid. Irrespective of whether it will be bigger than Prince, it certainly makes for a compelling comeback.

Review: Although rarely spoken about in hushed tones, Peter Adshead AKA Baby Ford is one of British house and techno's true pioneers. As many readers will know, he spent the first decade of his career exploring acid house and rave, before switching to a deeper and more minimalistic techno and tech-house sound towards the end of the '90s. It's in that period that BFORD14, which is finally being reissued digitally, first appeared in stores. Intoxicating, bass-heavy and entrancing, the EP's many highlights include the hissing hypnotism of 'Serpentine Tale', the deep bass, melancholic synthesiser chords and crunchy drums of 'Night D3 Died', and the spacey, deep techno warmth of deliciously hazy closing cut 'The Introducer'.

"USSR" is a deliciously warped mix of huge industrial kicks matched with shifting acapella shots and some charging synth work, while "House Music" ups the bpms a little and rocks a minimal booty bass beat and hazy Detroit stabs. Staying on a Miami tip, "Pool Chicks" recalls recent tunes from Mele and Canblaster with a delirious set of arpeggiated leads married to a thick minimal bassline and kicks.

Review: Dusky has certainly made the most of running the 17 Steps label. Astonishingly, this is the duo's 16th release on the imprint since it launched back in 2014. As usual, there's plenty to admire across the four-track EP, starting with the poignant chord progressions, rubbery synth-bass, "Show Me Love" organ stabs and trippy late night atmospherics of "Cold Heart". Their penchant for hustling low-end and grandiose synthesizer flourishes is explored further on "Psychic Life Coach", while the superb "Bowed" sees them doffing a cap to both John Carpenter and Patrick Cowley. For those seeking fluttering riffs, heavy analogue bass and breezy, summery vibes, closer "Balfour Betty" should be essential listening.

Review: Back in the mid 2000s, Jake 'Rex The Dog' Williams was touted for future greatness on the back of a string of singles that joined the dots between Kraftwerk, synth-pop, '80s electro and melodious nu-disco. Somewhere along the way, he lost his mojo, and the releases began to dry up. Happily, Sicko - his first single for two years - sees him back at his imaginative, mesmerising best. The title track bobs and weaves brilliantly, lacing trippy, stuttering electronics and yearning chords on top of a sparse, beatbox electro-influenced Balearic house groove. "Korgasmatron" is arguably even better, with Williams brilliantly fusing dirty, bubbling bottom-end electronics and warped acid lines with a killer, rave style vocal hook.

Review: French producer Romain Poncet's stage name is the German word for 'dreamer', but this release proves that his sound is very earthy and rooted in the real world. "Hoodlum" kickstarts the release with dark bassy licks and a Nu Groove style siren before he delivers a series of functional tracks. "Shuttering", "Static Run" and "Swish" are all based on driving rhythms, firing percussion and searing chords - with the dense warehouse of "Swish" proving to be the most effective and impressive. However, the release highlights divert from this approach, with the tough, loopy "Wasp" and the menacing minimal surges of "Chord X" recalling the best of '90s techno.

Review: It's that time again where Dixon, Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann serve up another edition of their Secret Weapons series which always lives up to its name; just they aren't that secret anymore thankfully! As always the Innervisions camp present a real mix up of names from across the board of house and techno and there's some pleasant surprises once again. Starting off with Belgian tech house heroes Raw District with the brooding and suspense filled "From The Inside" which is the kind of track you could really imagine Dixon playing to a festival crowd. Berlin legend Oliver Deutschmann (Falkplatz/Vidab) with the dreamy and hypnotic "Control" was great too. Elsewhere there's Southern German merchant of dark journey tracks Tim Engelhardt representing the new garde (alongside Bog) with "No More Words" featuring some wonky synth leads and minimal techno legend Marc Houle with the cheeky retro EBM jack of "Tomboyz". Honourable mention to the Valence/Delft affiliated GoldFfinch with the tough reductionist techno jam "The Hidden"

He showcases this talent on his latest release for DJ Koze's label; the title track comprises tough, tribal beats and a rolling rhythm, but it also has a warm, fluid bass and expansive chords flows through it. In case there was any lingering doubt about Boman's abilities, he delivers "Nokturn (Grand Finale)". Much faster than the title track, its splintered but insistent percussion, jazzed out stabs and dub effects show that he is one of the most innovative young house artists.

Review: It sounds like Hot Creations regular Patrick Topping has been listening to a lot of classic soul. On the title track of his latest release for the label, he fuses a sultry female vocal - similar to Aretha Franklin - over a bass-heavy, walking groove and incessant, hypnotic horns. It's the type of infectious, upbeat tune that'll be championed by big room DJs. "Track Change" marks a different approach: the UK producer opts for a more reduced, stripped back groove, and even though he uses a vocal sample, its robotic and repetitive, and fits perfectly with the tough rhythm, acid belches and metallic percussion that support it.

Review: Baby Ford's long running Trelik label enjoyed a more prolific year in 2011 than at any time in the past decade, and Whalesong is a fitting end to a glorious 12 months. If you've been following Och's releases, then you'll know what to expect here. The title track sees the mysterious producer drop dubbier, full blooded beats and billowing chords over a surging groove, while the use of shuffling drums and a stuttering vocal lend the track a memorable signature. "Blind Is The Wind" is an unusual ambient affair thanks to the inclusion of a confused vocal, but Och returns to his natural habitat on "Last Chance Saloon", which features more of the same pumping beats and dreamy chord sequences.

Review: UK house producer Jimpster gets reworked by two of his European house contemporaries in fine, diverse style. Andre Lodemann's take on "Towards the Seer" is an expansive, gradually unfolding affair. It starts off in bleepy, stripped back mode and then is guided by a searing bassline into an emotive breakdown. By contrast, KiNK's version of "Porchlight & Rockingchairs" is deeper and even more considered; balmy chords wash in over a pulsing groove. KiNK then gradually introduces a melody line so sweet and dreamy that it sounds like it was plucked from Carl Craig's studio and given a modern twist that makes it suitable for European dance floors.

Review: Kompakt's Total compilation series - an annual round up of gems from the imprint's tightly packed release schedule - must be one of the longest-running in dance music. Amazingly, this latest installment is the 14th volume in the series. For those who enjoy Kompakt's generally positive approach to electronic music - think tactile techno, ambient pop and skewed, synth-laden house from the likes of Michael Mayer, Thomas Fehlmann, Partial Arts and Gui Boratto - there's much to admire, including a slew of previously unreleased cuts. These include Superpitcher's "Delta", a sublime chunk of hypnotic e-tronica that's almost too melodic for its own good. Arguably even better is Weval's live recording of "Something", which is near perfect in its wide-eyed pop simplicity.

Review: Sao Paulo deep house producer Xique-Xique's Xaxoeira EP was originally released in 2014 but now sees a deserved vinyl release. Starting out with the very All Day I Dream-ish "1542" which is complete with lush xylophone melodies, woozy synths and smooth beats, he's then into the slow burning title track, which comes complete with cosmic atmosphere and sultry French vocals; just perfect for drifting. Ecuador's Nicola Cruz delivers a fine remix, staying on the same Lee Burridge style vibe of the first track and is perfect for an open air rooftop party near you next Summer.

Review: Five years on from the first outing on Running Back, Genius of Time twosome Alexander Berg and Nils Krogh return to Gerd Janson's imprint with their first single in two years. Predictably, the Swedish duo is in fine form, delivering a trio of contrasting cuts that really deserve your attention. First up is the pots-and-pans drumming, scat vocals, booming bass and spacey chords of "Peace Bird", a driving deep house cut that's as atmospheric as they come. "Smiling Into Eternity" is even deeper and more intergalactic, with the pair peppering a chunky groove with swirling electronics and jazzy electric piano solos. Arguably best of all, though, is the rubbery synth-bass, electro-influenced drums and space disco flourishes of closing cut "Rymd01".
