Having previously notched up outings on Hot Gorilla, Moiss Music, Nervous, Sundries and Plastic People Digital, hard-working producer Akeem Raphael makes his bow on Yam Who's long-running Midnight Riot imprint. Up first is 'Keep Me Close', a deep and dreamy house number marked out by eyes-closed soul vocal samples, P-funk flourishes, heady horns and a genuinely infectious, disco-influenced groove. On 'Check My Groove', Raphael reaches for what sounds like a classic R&B vocal, combining it with deep, soulful and sensual house grooves to impressive effect.
