After years spent plying his trade at the margins, self-proclaimed "drum machine specialist" Ali Berger popped up Scissor and Thread earlier this year with what's turned out to be a breakthrough release. He continues to impress on the Sun Inside EP, starting with the jacking machine drums, mind-mangling bass, sun-splashed electronic melodies and dreamy chords of 'Sun Rising on Harmony'. He switches tack and doffs a cap to vintage Chicago acid house and mind-mangling jack-tracks on 'Inside', before drifting off into space via the deep electro brilliance of 'Thoughts Like Light Snow'. To round off a fine EP of analogue electronic instrument abuse, Berger offers the weighty sub-bass, skittish lo-fi house rhythms, swelling pads and weird noises of 'Mint Leaf'.
