Following her acclaimed EP'Light It Again', Allysha brings her fresh lead single'Let It!'. Staunch and broken, poetic and vibrant, it encapsulates the pain and the remedy and is the first glimpse into her sophomore album 'Torn : Tonic', due for release May 2022.
Allysha Joy is a highly regarded member of the Melbourne jazz and soul scene, and with a heavy line-up of collaborations throughout 2021, she brings a brand new amalgamation of her poetic practice to the forefront in 2022. Well known as30/70 Collectivelead vocalist, Joy has seamlessly taken control of her sound over the years, putting her different skills on show, as singer, songwriter, keys player and selector. And while?Let It!'reveals the first glimpse into her sophomore album 'Torn : Tonic', it simultaneously celebrates her debut as producer!
'Let It!' conveys deeply heady musicianship on an uptempo groove that builds and builds. Joy's trademark husky vocals and exemplary Rhodes prowess set things off, accompanied with some incredible skippy drums courtesy of Myka Wallace, bold sax from Rachael Cohen and a fluid bassline from Matt Hayes. This track is a shining example of the Antipodean soul jazz community's unique twist on broken beat.
Allysha notes that'Let It!' is about "allowing myself to let go of all that continues to silence & overpower me. It's about the incredible gift of turning pain into poetry and the art of overcoming".
This track is enigmatically lyrical and reflective, portraying Joy's ability to dive deep into truths unspoken. At the same time the track sonically lends itself to any dancefloor it can find - it is a monumental culmination of soul meets dance, sitting uniquely within Joy's mighty repertoire.
