Tel Aviv-based Amir Pery seems to specialize in reworking unusual material; in the past, he's remixed and re-edited as many unlikely 1980s new wave and indie records as funk, soul and disco jams. "Great Dark Man", the title track from this first two-tracker for Alkalino's Audaz imprint, offers a stylish, woozy, catchy and authentically droning interpretation of a little-known Gina X alternative synth-pop classic. "Do It To Me" is a rework of what Pery describes as a "trash disco classic", in other words a deliciously sleazy, string-laden, almost Middle Eastern slab of exotic disco. It's the kind of record you want to get naked and sweaty to, which could prove problematic in all but a handful of riotous basement venues. Regardless, it's a killer rework.
