After a series of release on Nonplus this year, label owner Boddika delivers a moody techno EP. The title track resounds to tough drums and snappy percussion, which act as a backdrop for moody soundscapes. "Croak" sees Boddika move towards a more intense iteration of this sound, with a dense, tonal bass providing the undercurrent for a sleek rhythm and more mysterious textures. The skeletal, stepping rhythm of "808 (Hacked)" is not too dissimilar from the type of hypnotic techno that Sandwell District used to produce, while on "Metal Forest", the Nonplus boss focuses again on a more linear approach, one that is supported by layered percussion and eerie filters.
What is Album Only?
