"Zashu", the lead cut from this EP from unknown quantities Clark & Pudell, sits somewhere between murky nu-disco, '90s darkroom house and contemporary cocaine house. It pops and spits with hypnotic intent, burying subtle melodies under shuffling percussion, Tenaglia-ish chords and middle-eastern vocal samples. It somehow feels both dated and fresh, if that makes sense. Satin Jackets impress on their remix, a jaunty, piano-heavy tribute to the late '80s, rare groove-era pop-house remixes of David Morales and co. Soulplate deliver a subdued garage tweak, while Viper Strike takes it further into Tenaglia territory with a marathon 'bass and beats' edit.
