Review

Clavis is a new project from experienced German deep house producers Manuel Tur and Adrian "Urban Absolutes" Hoffmann. This debut single for Freerange is quietly impressive, with the pair delivering two original tracks that join the dots between the organic, stretched-out dancefloor melodiousness of Innervisions, the world music inspired deep house of Osunlade, and - in the case of "Mirzozas Dream" - the positive hynotism of Snivilisation-era Orbital. Of the two tracks, it's opener "Banza" - a kind of deep house take on Penguin Cafe Orchestra with additional live percussion - that most impresses. A tasty package is completed by a thrillingly wild, melodious and analogue-heavy rework of "Mirzozas Dream" from veteran Japanese producer Kuniyuki, who turns Clavis's original into a future anthem.
