Cooly G, the first lady of UK funky, is back on Hyperdub after a four-year absence. Both tracks are collaborative affairs that subtly showcase the diverse influences she's been soaking up since we last heard from her. Marcus Damon hook-up 'Save Me' is deliciously hard tp pin down stylistically, with Cooly G adding her own emotive, atmospheric vocals to a loose-limbed backing track rich in weighty drill bass, skewed broken house rhythms and dreamy deep house chords. The influence of drill and grime can be heard even more clearly on 'We Can Find Love Too', featuring singer Ruth Brown, where lo-fi synth melodies and sumptuous chords ride another booming, off-kilter low-end groove.Get new release alerts
