The UK's Subaltern label was one our personal picks from last year's new dubstep imprints and they certainly knew how to end it on a high. With D Operation and Deode - two new producers at the controls - Subaltern continues their personal brand of heady, half-step deviations in fine style, and we can't wait to see what these guys have got in store for us in 2014. "Stronghold" sounds like the unofficial lead track from the Blade Runner soundtrack, full of bionic low-ends and shuffling percussion, whereas "Angkor" is even nastier, heavier and a load more deadly on the floor. The mysterious Perverse re-wires "Stronghold" into oblivion, adding in a poisonous bassline and plenty more FX trickery, but it's up to "Breaking" to inject a very welcomed slice of oddity to the equation - noxious low-ends, nutty melodies and a wicked, grooving roll.
