Dave Angel has been releasing electronic music for over 20 years, so it doesn't come as a surprise that his latest release is less frenetic than his jazz-techno records of yore. However, "Voodoo" is not short on the UK producer's signature techniques. Snares build and crash, smoky trumpets sound out in the background and a buzzing bassline provides the all-important backing. On "Tomahawk", the beats are stripped back and tough, but Angel can't resist adding musical elements and soon enough, it veers into hypnotic chord sequences. Finally, there's "Give it Up", which revisits his 39 Flavours of Tech-Funk mix thanks to its insistent percussion and dubby beats.
