Review

Next up on self-styled 'sci fi techno' label is the Declassified compilation. Staying true to the imprint's own descriptor, Error Channel delivers the spooky, outer space ambience of "Vemion Pulsa", while Decoder's "Sighting" and Rondec's "Duxelle" see insistent interstellar tones fused with stripped back, understated rhythms. The release takes a more discordant turn on "Phase Shift", Allen's dense jacker, while Michael Ferrell's "Apophenia" ramps up the intensity levels. Led by a driving, steely rhythm and relentless hi hats, it's redolent of Jeff Mills material. The influence of the seminal Detroit artist can also be heard on the hypnotic space techno of CRØWN's "Atmosphere Modulator".
