Review

Dele Sosimi's first collaborative EP with house producer Medlar, 2020's Full Moon, was a genuine musical triumph, so hopes are naturally high for the pair's belated sequel. Happily, the pair hit the mark from the word go, with opener 'Lord Have Mercy (featuring Tamar Osborn)' featuring a near perfect fusion of Afrobeat organs, loose-limbed old school house grooves and spacey, elongated synth solos. 'All About The Dance' somehow manages to be both deeper and cheerier whilst retaining the pair's trademark cross-generational and cross-cultural musical fusion, while 'Shine On (featuring Zito Mowa)' sounds like a cross between spaced-out house, deep Afro-disco and intergalactic jazz-funk. Closing cut 'State of Play', meanwhile, updates the William Onyeabor sound for the 21st century.
