DJ Lion's work is supported by Richie Hawtin and Sven Vath, but as the title track on his new album shows, it also has the potential to cross over to a mainstream audience. Featuring Tony Mac's soulful vocals playing out over a rolling groove, "On The Verge" is a hit in waiting. That said, there are plenty of underground highlights to choose from here. "Jovial" is irresistibly hypnotic tribal techno, while on "Prerogative" and "Zeitgeist", he explores deeper territories, as billowing chords are accompanied by menacing basslines. In contrast, "Accelerando" is a coruscating banger, with the Harthouse producer combining insistent riffs with a punishing sub-bass. He may be destined for fame, but clearly DJ Lion has not forgotten his underground roots.
