Formed in 2019 by DJ/producer Nikolay Markov and guitarist Yanko Argirov, DJ Marcon & The Palo Santos are an Afrobeat-inspired six-piece from Bulgaria and this, their third EP for Greek label Timewarp Music, is the proverbial "game of two halves". The title track pretty much an out-and-out Afrobeat/Afro-jazz affair, its stop-start rhythm topped with a militant female vocal and some very fine brass, but if that's not your bag then fret not because the accompanying 'After Midnight', while still Afro-tinged, rocks a more straight-up jazz/jazz-funk groove - and once again, somebody needs to buy that trumpeter a drink!Get new release alerts
