Review
Ekai's previous outing on Baumhaus, last year's Homies & Beats, was something of an overlooked gem. Hopes are naturally high, then, for this follow-up. "Roots" sits somewhere between big room tech-house and sparkling, piano-heavy deep house, with Samuel Fitch's soul-fired vocals riding a backing track rich on David Morales style Red Zone electronics, low-slung electronic bass and rolling beats. Tigerskin provides the headline remix, reaching for the squiggly boogie synths and re-casting the track and an ear pleasing chunk of electrofunk/deep house fusion. Arguably even better is the unashamed nostalgia of the "90's Mix", which is as authentically retro-futurist as the name suggests and will have hands rocketing skywards from the moment the organ licks and piano riffs kick in.Get new release alerts
