Review

London by way of Brighton label Where To Now? have been quietly building up a rep for some interesting sonics since 2011 and really hit a groove last year with that Beatrice Dillon tape a highlight. Another sublime moment arrives in the shape of this album from Eugene Ward. You should know the Australian producer from his work as Dro Carey and Tuff Sherm, but Painte En Pointe may be his most ambitious set to date. Originally composed to soundtrack a six month performance installation in a Sydney gallery, the eight tracks here are filled with snaking rhythms and intricate drum programming that could be likened to the club constructions of Logos and Mumdance but with metallic sounds replaced by the sinewy movement of human limb. The intricately assembled vocal rhythmics of "Somnium (group)" in particular is quite something.
