Roc Jimenez de Cisneros returns to Editions Mego with his group of close collaborators under the Evol moniker - an outfit reserved solely for the most experimental shades of electronic music spanning all corners from noise to techno and musique concrete. Those smart folks over at Mego wrap up the package into a nice, neat ten-tracker including some of Evol's most daring work yet, categorised only as "Proper Headshrinker" 1-10. Evol set the bar high with an initial squelch of synth arpeggiations and move through the same waveform to create a pattern of insistent basslines which somehow morph into their own coherent shape. From faster to more deranged synth manipulations, the group have worked something of a spectacle, insisting on the same sound to paint their vivid, despairing portrayal of electronic music - one that's not immediately perceptible as a specific concept but sure as hell effective on the synapses.
