Entire Release:

Extrawelt's latest two-track offering, "Riverrun/Midi Waters," on Systematic Recordings, is like a malfunctioning mood ring dipped in a vat of radioactive techno. It's got the classic, floor-thumping energy you expect, but with a generous sprinkling of the wonderfully weird. "Riverrun" throws you in the washing machine first, with a bassline that coils and twists like a rogue dryer cord. The melody shimmers and shifts like a disco ball on the fritz, keeping you guessing what sonic surprise is coming next. It's the aural equivalent of watching a hypnotist bend reality with a snap of their fingers, except instead of feeling sleepy, you just have to move. Then, "Midi Waters" flips the switch to spin cycle. Imagine a deep-sea rave for malfunctioning robots, complete with a murky soundscape that's equal parts industrial clang and rhythmic pulse. This track is a love letter to dystopian techno, perfect for those who appreciate their techno with a hefty dose of the bizarre.
