Product information

Father And Son Records And Tapes was started in 2015 by veteran Polish DJ, promoter and all in all tastemaker Maciek Sienkiewicz as a platform for releasing music by mostly unknown, emerging artists, helping to launch careers of, among others, Das Komplex, Naphta or Niemoc.

After four years - and 17 releases on vinyl, CD, cassettes and digital - FASRAT comes at its most diverse and surprising, bringing together 24 artists for FASRAT Compilation #3.

Two hours of music, carefully sequenced to form a proper musical journey, include tunes by old friends and total strangers, established artists and newcomers, representing almost all possible genres of contemporary electronic music.

All grounds covered here: bright-eyed, melodic deep house of Evius, Milhause or Steam, dubby Balearic gems from Tamten and Das Komplex, harsh, peak-time techno of VIELD and Arkadiusz Entropia, bass-heavy ethnic fusion of Naphta and Kazushi Minakawa, polyrhythmic adventures of Ifs (duo of Fischerle and Ostrowski), lo-fi craziness of Piotr Poloz and Volvo, dreamy electronics of Lowhitey, Goerserr and Krenz. There are also some seriously leftfield, experimental moments courtesy of Mlody Kotek (with its cryptic voice samples), Micromelancolie, Joanna John and Patryk Cannon, blending ambient textures with rhythmic noises, and even some mutant hip-hop of Kangurul and notorious collective Hewra. On a contrary, Steez83, one of the top Polish hip-hop beatmakers, appears here with surprising mid-tempo electroid groover. The compilation was mastered by Bartek Prosul, who appears here under his Yoshii Swxdn alias, delivering two collaborative tracks of incredibly complex sonic experiments, broken rhythms and heavily processed vocals.

FASRAT Compilation #3, as adventurous as it gets without being tiresome, is a great summary of Sienkiewicz's efforts as a promoter/curator, serving as a great document and insight into ever-expanding scene of modern electronic music in Poland.

Review

Over the last four years, unheralded Polish scene hero Maciek Sienkiewicz has quietly gone about turning his Father & Son Records and Tapes (FASRAT) label into a must-check imprint for those who like to be surprised and inspired in equal measure. It's for this reason that the label's latest compilation - its third in total - demands your attention. Amongst the thrillingly varied 24-track selection you'll find a cut that sounds like an audio fist fight between Autechre and the Bug ("Candyflipper" by Ifs), an ultra deep and dubby dancefloor throb-job (Steam's "Muzyka Sekwencyina"), a colourful rush through synth-powered nu-disco/house fusion (Millhaus's "Jet Set Leg"), some bluesy dub disco/lo-fi jazz-house fusion (Volvo's "Suibidub") and some suitably popping, bass-heavy beats (Naphta). And that's just for starters. A must check release.
