The spirit of 90s rave looms large on the ninth instalment of Fjaak's self-titled series. It's audible on "Give It To Me", where dramatic piano keys unfold over a rolling break beat. The addition of breathy vocals pushes the track even farther into hardcore heaven. "Why Are You Here" is more measured. Fjaak again draw on 90s influences, but this time the mood is subdued. Piano keys map out a path for more ponderous vocal samples and dense, sluggish kicks. While it is still dance floor-focused, it has an ethereal, hypnotic feeling - like a restrained take on a Shed side project.Get new release alerts
