Review
It's been quite a while since Orlando Voorn and Juan Atkins last collaborated, but the passage of two decades has done little to dilute their chemistry. As Mind Merge shows, it's an inspired pairing, pitting Voorn's European sensibilities against Atkins' Detroit funk. Acid swirls and atmospheric chord swooshes emphasis Atkins' influence on album opener "Beyond the Beyond" and on the urgent, jerky groove of "Pure Soul". Meanwhile, Voorn's rolling, tribal sound is audible on "Entourage"and the vocal sample-heavy, dub techno of "Revolve". The title track is probably the most seamless fusion of the pair's distinctive styles though, as airy synths are underpinned by a tough, pacey rhythm.Get new release alerts
