Review
It's been heartening to see the artistic rebirth of legendary French artist Laurent Garnier. After seemingly losing his way in recent years, he's returned with a bang in 2014, releasing music on Still Music, 50 Weapons and Musique Large with EPs that have variously touched on instrumental hip-hop, techno and jackin' house. Here he pops up on Motor City Drum Ensemble's label with a pair of warm, fuzzy and attractive deep house tracks. "Psyche-Delia" opens proceedings, layering exotic synth motifs and looped keys over a bassy, low-slung groove. Arguably even better is "Whistle for Frankie", a touching Frankie Knuckles tribute blessed with lovingly soulful keys, synth doodles and melancholic, minor key chords.Get new release alerts
