Gene Richards Jr's catalogue may be small, but he has already released on high-profile labels like Beard Man and CLR. The fast-rising producer's latest EP on Hardgroove is sure to win him further acclaim. Both "Meant 2 Be" and "Syndrome Control" fuse intense chord builds and soulful vocals over whirlwind jacking rhythms - making for intense tracks that also maintain a sense of depth. On "Dance Your Last Dance", he favours a stripped back, tribal sound, with dense drums supporting a rumbling groove. It's only a brief diversion, however.
