Electronic music's man-machine relationship stretches way back to the 70s with the emergence of Kraftwerk, and Synthesis Lab provides a contemporary iteration of this dynamic. "Iodine Derivative" is a mournful, synth heavy groove. Meanwhile on "Sulfonic Acids", "Agno3" and the stepping "Rotary Ball Distillation Furnace", Half Robot delivers more dystopian interpretations of modern techno, thanks to the use of visceral acid and wave upon wave of wild tonal frequencies. In contrast, "Retrosynthetic Route" and "Preparatory Fine Layer" both see Half Robot focus on linear rhythms, fusing tough, lean drum patterns with building, pulsating acid lines - a seamless fusion of the organic and the robotic.
