Review

Exactly placing the Hounds of Hate sound has always been tough. To date, they've flitted between eccentric leftfield electronica and stylist electro-disco. "Purple Stuff" is equally hard to define. Based around skittering, off-beat analogue drums, woozy synth melodies and a booming bassline, it sounds like the sort of thing Secret Circuit would make for Black Acre. Unsurprisingly, the remixes are just as curious. Photonz booming version flits between rush-inducing synth-strings and intense, paranoid groovery, while the Timothy J Fairplay mix is almost Balearic in its analogue sweetness. Then there's the Zoda Cade remix, which sounds like early 90s electronica with an Orbital twist. Recommended.
