Review

Venomous Japanese tech-breaks outfit Human Boot Project do a great line in genre bending beats - veering from release to release between straight up techno, jazz-influenced breaks and mutant breakbeat. On their latest EP, they range from deathly and hugely moody walls of punky electro ("Impressions of Dietime" and "Rising To The Moment") to much more soothing IDM ("Dusk"). Their drums are always on point, with sequenced beats that closely resemble hectic 50s jazz drumming as on "Dusk", but they can also do a nifty line in non-cliched chill-out, as on the closing track, "Room".
