Ishi Vu's last outing, 2016's Green is the Colour of Love on Omena, was rather special, so hopes are naturally high for this follow-up on Studio Barnhus. While that was largely dusty, melodious and luscious, this follow-up sees the fast-rising producer opt for a more distorted, lo-fi feel. Check, for example, the redlined synthesizer melodies, skuzzy, electro-influenced beats and eyes-wide-shut vocal samples of "Super Speed" and the straight-to-tape, yearning deep house shuffle of "Lucid Dream", whose crunchy drum hits are smothered in all kinds of ear-pleasing sounds. Elsewhere, "Is This Love" is a brilliantly bonkers, upbeat fusion of hazy hip-hop samples, pitched-up reggae legends and skewed beats, while closer "Between a Dream and a Hard Place" is end-of-days ambient for melancholy conspiracy theorists.
