Rising French producer Jay Weed is ever carving out his own space in which to roam, channeling bass music machinations through a filter of minimalism and ending up in a decidedly electro place. At least that's how new single "Tunnel" comes on, kicking off the 2084 imprint with a track that calls to mind the leftfield boogie scramblings of artists such as Dexter or Dopplereffekt at their funkiest. Equally singular marauder Huerco S is drafted in for a remix that replaces snappy beat patterns for a sluggish 4/4 slur that's more implied than explicit, while additional pads drift in and out of the mix and the track threatens to disassemble at any given moment, which is a good thing naturally.
