Review
Powerland is the sixth volume of Jeff Mills' Axis Expressionist Series. Per the label, the series comprises the Detroit producer's 'most eclectic and transcendent compositions'. This EP is no different from previous instalments. The title track sees Mills in freeform mode, as discordant jazz notes and staccato drums come together for an ethereal jam. Both "The Divine Line" and "Hippie Woman Wild" trace their roots back to the early 00s Every Dog Has Its Day releases, as sax squalls and subtle piano keys unravel over gentle rhythms. While there is some link to Mills' dance floor work, it's on the deeper end and takes the form of the atmospheric techno of "The Savvy Provocateurs of Parallel 42".Get new release alerts
