New York producer John Roberts sophomore set, 2013's concept set Fences, was something of an off-kilter triumph. There's more atmospheric, gently undulating, experimentally-minded fare to be found on this new EP for Roberts' long-time home Dial Records. "Ausio", a gently unwinding foray into quietly melodic but formidably fuzzy techno territory, is particularly revelatory, feeling ear-pleasing and attractive despite its' analogue rhythms and clear dancefloor focus. The skittering but fluid "Indigo" - IDM meets 808 electro meets leftfield Balearica - is almost as good, while "Faces" is unashamedly picturesque and wholeheartedly sweet. In other words, it's another excellent EP from the classically trained producer.
