Review

As flag-bearers for the Dirtybird sound, it makes perfect sense to see Justin Martin and Eats Everything linking up once more after their turn on Hypercolour with "Feather Fight". Here, "Steven Jello" finds the pair exploring some growling and grinding textures in their usual tech house framework, keeping the bass nice and chunky and bringing some choice snippets of vocal and sirens into the mix, but it's the little touches like the discofied bongo breakdown that show off the ingenuity of the pair. "Kong" meanwhile keeps the beat minimal and steady, while all around a bizarre mixture of sound effects, occasional organs and all manner of other treats dart and parry, creating a satisfyingly freaky end result.
