Ryuichi Sakamoto once described Kyoka's music as sounding 'like a toy box turned upside-down'. On this Is (Is Superpowered) LP however, it seems any sign of playmaking has been droned-out by deep basslines, electrified pulses, sine waves and static, and techno beats. There are, though, the slightest snippets of Japanese vocals that filter through this dense sonic mesh of power noise that's made to dance to as well as appreciate. Arguably the best thing Rater-Noton has released so far this year.
