Review
Kenny Hawkes' legendary Paper Recordings imprint is still going. One of the greats and true originals of UK deep house with an unashamed nod to the classic sounds of the USA, particularly Chicago. La Guardia De La Luz previously released on the label in 2014 with the great Resonate EP so its good to hear Mexican Santiago Rionda back in the studio. "Surface" is summery, sultry and dreamy; you could imagine this being played at an All Day I Dream party. "Sol" is more on the vibe you'd expect from the label on this jazzy and soulful deep house jam but still retains his knack for atmospherics. The bassline on this one is fat too, by the way! Finally "Post Junk Libido" is not just contender for best track title of the year, it's a luscious and smooth slow-mo jam that makes you feel like you're relaxing in a hammock on a summer island..
