The Ancients is one of the best examples of a new producer embracing abstract sounds. Both "Big Bang Origins" and "Children Of The Gods" start off as eerie, textured soundscapes, but in the case of the former, it lapses into distorted Regis-style techno beats, while the latter veers into classic "X-102/3"-era Mills grooves, with snares crashing and flailing as the spooky textures persist. A similar Mills-inspired approach is applied on "Giants Upon The Earth", but Ruiz also knows how to make more mellow grooves as the brittle claps and yelping melodies of "Cromagnon Modified For Anunnakis" and the dreamy early 90s UK techno styled "Alpha" so ably demonstrate.
