Last November we got rather excited by French producer Mangabey's first outing on Apparel Music, claiming that it sounded like it could have been produced in Detroit or New York. We can now add Chicago to that list, too, as there's a warm Windy City flavour to the immaculate deep house groovers gathered together on this Toy Tonics outing. Our highlights are arguably the impeccably dreamy, loose-limbed brilliance of "GUFM" (later remixed to loved-up perfection by fellow Frenchman Folamour) and the Andres-style deep house dustiness of "Purple Gutter", though many will be drawn towards the piano-sporting, semi-breakbeat positivity of "Chicago Memory".
