Review

For the best part of two decades, Mannequin has been shining a light on obscure but brilliant electronic music. Traversing a broad spectrum that takes in long forgotten 80s releases and modern proponents of left of centre techno, Cold Waves encapsulates everything that's great about Mannequin. Carmody, an act who were the subject of a 2015 compilation on the label, deliver the louche synth pop of "Messengers Of Love". At the other end of the spectrum, there's the claustrophobic ebm of former Black Strobe member Arnaud Rebotini's "The Glove And The Whip" and Tropic of Cancer's hypnotically funereal "The One Left". Then there are contributions that connect the past with the present, such as label owner Alessandro Adriani's tripped out take on the late, great Caroline K's "Don't Believe It's Over". As labels go, Mannequin has few if any peers.
