Review

Mark Broom delivers his fifth Battle Breaks instalment - this time with a focus on the peak time. Both "Romance" and "Dated" are tough minimal tracks that teem with Robert Hood-style organ riffs and steely percussive urgency. Movement" is angular analogue techno that recalls vintage Cristian Vogel, while "B Groove" sees Broom flex his tribal muscles to deliver a robust, looped groove. The slamming "Flex" and the insistent builds and filtered drops of "Layover" represent the apex of Broom's dance floor approach. However, Volume 5 isn't all about peak time techno - "Post" is a more considered minimal track and "Ranger" sees him draw on house influences to deliver a funky finale.
