Talk about defying pre-conceived notions. Island is about as far removed from Cocoon's party techno as is possible. Swedish duo Minilogue have been regulars on Vath's label for a while now and last year's Blomma album was one 2013's quiet highlights. The same genteel approach applies here; the title track, at a relatively brief 12 minutes, sees jazzy motifs, birdsong and sensuous strings unfolding over a lazy groove; "Nothing is Lost" features dramatic acid sweeps washing in, wailing vocals and warm, psychedelic pads. Best of all though, the 17-minute "What Is Here To Protect" is a slow-burning, freeform jam, airy and sensuous, delicate and dreamy.
